Ok...research planetary invasion as fast as humanly possible, drill out as many ships as we can.  Our ships' attack is weaker, but what are their ships weak against, beam or missile?  Please tell us, Sirus, so we can get ships that can exploit their weaknesses.

I'd bet they just simply don't have any defenses whatsoever. The AI doesn't design ships, I think, which hampers them, to say the least.

Creativity: This is what separates us from aliens.

On a more serious note, what exactly is the A.I.'s standard ship design?  Just produce the strongest combination of parts?

Yeah, Sirus said that. Point Defesne would be nice for us though.

Okay, time to kick some asses. Sirus, is there still many colonizable planets with decent rating around? (Aka, still worth it producing Basque, or should we just churn out as many Phoenixes as possible?

Anyway.

S.H.E.B.

Earth, Mars and Ymir will focus solely on warships from now on, Phoenixes now and NRDL as soon as possible.

When we finally get any armor, equip the NRDL with one point of each type.

Sorry Sheb, but I've stopped producing Basques. There's just aren't any colonizable planets in our range; pretty much everything has been snapped up by the Krynn. However, there are a number of hazardous worlds (toxic atmospheres, ocean worlds, and the like) that can be colonized with proper research.

While general defenses are fine for a general-purpose warship, we know that the Krynn only use missiles. It'd be a far better use of a heavy fighter's limited space to maximize it's anti-missile defenses. Plus, we'd be able to start production much sooner, rather than waiting for two extra techs to be finished.

@ NRDL: I couldn't say. In my experience, AI ships tend to go for maximum firepower rather than speed or defenses. However, we're on Medium difficulty, and GalCiv is known for some pretty tricky AI.

Okay, perfect, just wanted to know.

Now, for armor, we should create new designs as new tech come in. Due to the way GalCiv compute armor (Full armor from the right type, plus de square root of the other two), having one point in each gives you 3 point of armor against all type of weapons.

Full warship production then. We're on the warpath!

The AI can build any saved spaceship design. There's a couple of default ones shipped with the game, but frankly they're all kind of mediocre at best.

R&D
"i did say to research planetary invasion sooner and then tidal disruption, didn't i?!"
"calm down chief!"
"these incompetent fools! i was warning them all along!"
"chief please stop! you can't lobotomize them!"
"we will see!"
"chief! stop maiming the lab mices!"
"i will show them!" *squeeak (sounds of mice getting minced to shreds)
"the mice don't deserve it!!!"
"oh...you're right. Bury it then. I'll be writing a detailed plan"

1)Planetary invasion
2)XENO FARMS technology (more of it)
3)MORE XENO FARMS technology (still more of it)
4)Xeno influences/economics. (the influence-raiser which adds influence increase modules to the starbases A MUST)
5)Increase population, increase population, increase population.
>.>

ps: (i'm not really angry, i'm just rping it)

pps: i had the same influence barrage with a play against the Drengins.
The bad thing is that after a while of only completely researching weaponry or economics, the AI gets her hands on Influence and increase population. and influence is generated by that. The amount of influence generated depends on the population, racial bonuses, and certain projects (like embassies) we are losing because probably the enemy is MASS reproducing.
we need more people, and without declaring war.
because if they "do" have a billion people on their planets, even if we do invade them, they'd just out-hump us.
again and again.

Oh, they likely have more than a billion per world. By default, a planet has a population cap of 8 billion (no farms). However, my plan (pending approval of the War Council) is to first take the worlds inside our borders. They'll have less population due to being newer, and they'll solve the problem of our worlds being influenced.

IIRC, the tech takes 16 weeks to research, and I'm about halfway through something else. Of course, there's always the chance of Creativity showing through!

Planetary invasion is a pretty big tech, so only 16 weeks is sending me a signal we're doing pretty good with tech. Probably not tech leader, but we're up there. On the other hand, the Krynn having beam 3 ships tells me they might be tech leader, or at least that they've gone down the military tech tree further than us.

Oh yes. As I said, we've got a fairly substantial fleet of Phoenixes already. One-on-one, they'd have a hard time standing up to Krynn ships, but throw them into fleets and they'd put up a good fight. I guess it depends on if you'd rather have NRDLs or invasion capabilities first.

@ Mr. Person: They actually have Missile 3 ships, which can be done with the very first level of stingers. But yes, we've got at least two good research worlds working right now, so a lot can get done.

We need to conquer their planets first.  Then we move on to NRDLs.

Sirus, if it's not too much trouble, do you mind posting the ship designs in your first post?  That way, whenever any of us want to review which ship is needed, we can just look there.
