You have a very pleasant voice, and I like that your speech is... dedicated, not disorganized.

I wish for you that your tuts will attract many new players.

Next update has more to do with adventure mode I think - it's focused on developing towns, their inhabitants and industries, the sewers/catacombs beneath them, and various unpleasant critters that can live therein.

Some of the new creatures/syndromes will spill over into fortress mode - supposedly you can get invaded by a necromancer that can literally raise the dead, or a werewolf that can bite dwarves and pass werewolf-ism onto them, and so on. All the town changes might affect what traders bring as well.

But anyway, it doesn't sound like there will be any difference in how basic fortress mode stuff works, just changes to the world outside the fortress and how it interacts with you, i.e. invaders/wild creatures/traders. Which is definitely awesome in its own way, but not the kind of thing you worry much about in a noob tutorial.
So I hear. But regardless, it'll bring some new things to the table in both modes.

I didn't watch every minute, I'm finished skimming through your videos, and it was hilarious!

Best reason. To play Dwarf Fortress. Right here:
"He's kind of injured, he's got an injured head, he's unconscious, he's exhausted, but he's not that bad. He could be a lot worse. I think it... oh... Ok, that dwarf is dead."

And the end of your tutorial really lived up to "Losing is Fun".

Note that water IS pressurized in a flowing river, just not at the z-level of the river. And as you inevitably found out, dammed rivers are even pressurized on the same z-level as the river.

One thing still confuses me though: Why was there a delay of several minutes between the unfreezing of the brook and the overflowing of the well. The well reservoir was filled 7/7 during the whole winter, so that didn't need time to fill.

Thank you very much for this :D

The first Dwarf fortress vid series I find where the speaker has a voice that doesn't rip the ears off my head.

There might not have been a delay. I didn't notice for a short period of time, as when I realized, it was already half flooded.

Also, I failed the evil glacier recording. I got to seven parts and died. Goddamnit.

I'm embarking newly in a mountain area, looking at other areas, such as irrigation of stone, terraforming of outside safely and whatnot. I've already nearly got to a year in the 4-5 parts I've recorded, as I'm not having to talk about EVERYTHING like I did at the start of the tutorial. Will look into pump stacks and the likes to do bits on later as well. I'm up for any requests for stuff to look into in my mountain embark.

Oh, and I'll be doing moods/forgotten beasts as soon as I get one.

Updating the OP with the videos when they're done.

Subscribed. Looks great so far. I'll be using this to try and get some of my friends to play.

Thanks. I'm going to record some more very soon, so I'll have the OP uploaded with a fair bit soon.

Finished!

Totalling at 6:35. I probably could have cut down, it kind of turned into let's play at some point, but still, I think it more than covers everything required to survive, and hopefully it has a modicum of entertainment in it too!

Also, I said at the end, I'm by no means done. I'm just finished with the BASICS. Anyways, hope someone got some fun or knowledge out of it! I know I had a lot of fun making them all.

Just wanted to say thanks for a fantastic set of tutorials.

Currently working my way through them now - they're proving a massive help, whilst still managing to be hugely entertaining  :D

Don't quote me on that.
Cacame channels aquifers into submission by staring at them. Cacame is so badass, kobolds give him their children to leave them alone. If Hidden Fun Stuff digs too far down, they hit Cacame. Cacame once took a Tantrum Spiral and impaled four enemies on it.

Sure! I'm a geordie, from Newcastle, a pretty non-widespread accent in the north-east of accent. It's very... interesting. Something interesting to note is that TotalBiscuit has the same accent as me, but he puts on a more deep and dramatic voice to rid himself of the bulk of it.
