I... am... not... dorfy... enough!
« on: August 04, 2011, 10:05:37 pm »

I have a problem here.

I am not dorfy enough.

I can put goblins in cages, disarm them, and then sentence them to death in a pit, or kill a caravan of elves simply because they annoyed me...
But I am actually feeling GUILTY about butchering animals.
Why is this happening to me?

Please, someone, anyone, I need a remedy. I need to become more dorfy!

What can I do?!

Filthy vegan.

Punish yourself every time you feel guilty about killing an animal. Pinch yourself. Punch yourself. do SOMETHING to teach yourself that killing virtual animals is A-OKAY!

I feel guilty about butchering everything.

Except for rhesus macaques. I don't care if it's a baby or an adult. I'd rip those things apart PERSONALLY.

Maybe I should picture all of them as rhesus macaques...

I could show you a way to mod all your creatures to have the monkey's color and icon.  Everything will, essentially, appear as a monkey.

Don't feel guilty. Without butchery, dwarfs would have to resort to eating plants, and a dwarf can not live on plants alone. Well, I guess there is fishing, but it is not the same as cat meat.

Probably the best part was when the enraged hens took out a berserker who'd broken a nest box.

It's just a letter, no matter what the game calls it.

It's just a letter, no matter what the game calls it.

People get attached to those letters (and funny little faces). I got rather attached to my baroness, for instance.

And I feel guilty about murdering kittens. Not fully-grown cats, just kittens.

What's wrong with using magma? That's almost always the easiest method.
I have issues channeling it properly to do that method. I end up flooding the fortress with magma.

Personally, I refuse to make my dwarves eat cat or dog. A) I happen to be fond of both and B) they'd almost certainly taste vile. I don't tend to slaughter animals either, they're more use for milk, eggs or wool.

Besides, hunting is a great way to train up marksdwarves.

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

I feel minorly guilty butchering puppies and dogs.  I mean, they could be used as viable meatshields! They shouldn't be butchered, not by us at least!

Go try and play nice with the Elves.  When they start getting annoying (should take about a year or two of game time), you'll know what to do.

Build a 100 z-level tower of DOOM. Make an animal "pit" off one of the edges.

Pit every cat in your whole fort, one at a time until the bloody goresplosions produce nothing but laughter from you.

Then, not only have you gotten over your dirty elvish tendancies, you also have a perfectly useful execution tower.

Christ, are you dwarves or are you elves? If you think Hell has too many demons, then youkill them till the population reaches an acceptable number.
Dwarf Fortress: So horrifying the players would rather talk about nice things, like Warhammer 40k.

I have the same problem. When I order my dwarves to butcher a kitten while my own kitten is sound asleep in my lap, I feel very, very ashamed. Then do it anyway, because I need the meat, dammit.
