Mana shield blocks a flat 50% of all damage to HP. What this means is that a 2000hp Medusa really actually has 4000hp unless she has no mana.

That's basically a Centaur with two hearts at level 25.

Stworca: I don't think you understand just how tanky Medusa is if you're comparing her to Necrolyte.

I don't think you understand just how useless Medusa is if you're comparing her to any other carry pre.. 40 minutes?
The tankiness itself.. Yes, assuming you face no heroes with diffusal (no spectre or cancer) or passive mana burn (AM) nor permabash lords (alch, void - though he's hardly used lately) nor #ROFL10DIGIDCRIT like Sven or PA (who is also a bashlord...) OR Lifestealer with his % health steal. Then she is indeed very, very tanky!
The problem is, that i just named every late carry in existence.

Another problem is ever getting there. You need DK (team) - esque levels of 4 protect 1, where the 1 is absolutely useless for half an hour. Where 2 slotted PL can wipe teams, 2 slotted Medusa can escape a gank.. maybe... sometimes. Once she gets there, though, oooh boooo--- What?

Skadi, Linkens, Butterfly, Manta, BoT + 1... What 1? Rapier? Get out. Replace Skadi with something perhaps.. Daedalus! But where's the lifesteal.. Satanic instead of that? Some teams require a BKB to survive, it would have to replace the linkens..
Maybe take an Omni Knight so there is always magic immunity! Or a KotL to save on boots! No.
She has 6 slots, and it's far too little for her to be useful outside of the bloody Hail Mary Rapier tactic, UNLESS Medusa's team completely and absolutely outplays the other one.

As long as Gyro exists, her aoe attacks are but a joke as well, leaving Medusa with.. The Ulti.
"But Gyro's aoe only lasts for a few s---" Yeah, all the pro Gyro's have the cooldown issue, don't they..

I have a hard time naming a late game carry that is less versatile and useful than her.
"But if the game gets to 60 minu---" You cannot plan for that shit, unless you are LGD.Fortress.

Yes, she will win games, and will be extremely powerful with filled slots!
So will broodmother, or whoever the current sacrificial hero is in winrate?

Edit : "But she farms so fa--" No, she bloody doesn't.

Not only was it the titan who carried the game, but it was titan's Natural Order that compensated for Medusa's main problem that is lack of damage and ALLOWED her to contribute outside of the ulti.
What you wanted to say is "Look how strong Titan is, making even Medusa useful!"

"They had a medusa in the team and won! Medusa must be super-good!" is something i hope to never again see  :P
Na'Vi randomed Zeus and won. They also won with Armlet Dazzle and Mask of Madness Lina.

I ah... no.

You misunderstand medusa's current role. The past medusa was, what's the term... a Ricing specialist. Four protect 1 AFK farm for 40-70 minutes, and then hopefully you win. That has been redone by the virtue of the balance shifts and her ultimate - Medusa is now a tanky initiation/counter-initiator that transitions smoothly into a powerful carry. This is similar to how Enchantress transitions from very early Jungle to Support to Semi-Carry by middle-late game.

Medusa's major role is breaking several of current metagaming concepts. One is the carry ganking - many teams rely quite heavily on the support+ rotations, and Medusa is able to counteract that with her ultimate. It's not a complete fail safe, but on competitive level a failed initiation like this can cost you your middle game. Her ultimate is just that fantastic - it negates an initiation, and instead creates an opening for your own team.

Secondly, Medusa reduces the effectiveness of illusion-heavy heroes. Once more, not ideal, but quite manageable.

In a sense, Medusa occupies the same slot as Sven - not worth it as a carry until later into the game, but quite flexible and useful all the way through.


As teams get used to Medusa's ult, she will become less of a powerhouse. But realize she's not a carry like Alch, AM or Lifestealer. She cannot win early engagements for her team, she needs her team to win them for her. The difference between her and, say, Phantom Lancer, is that she is able to significantly contribute to teamfights before she is online.


Let's put it this way. A Medusa relies on her team to win the early game, and is able to contribute to it. Intelligent team set-ups will capitalize on that fact. A counter should find a way to outplay the early game, or find a way to shut down her late game.


EDIT: And you know, those are reasonable enough given an intelligent team. Armlet Dazzle makes sense as Dazzle does not benefit from most items; his main job is to not die while spamming his spells, and an Armlet is a good item for that. Lina transitions into a very powerful middle-game semi carry, and a MoM would amplify that further if you have an edge from early game and good positioning. And Na'vi have positioning and general game skill to allow for such a set up. In Dota1, Lina was sometimes built as an AD carry, with good success. See: Nature's Profit.

Medusa's ult was never questioned in its usefulness, and it's the only reason why the hero isn't ganked 24/7. Coupling her as a #1 carry, with support Naga and Silencer (mid?) will give you Team-Disengage that i would love to see in action... With gaze, song and global silence, no fighting would ever take place unless you wanted it to. Team Dignitas could possibly give that a shot, and win or lose, i'll love that game.

But you still need those 70+ CS/10min to make the enemy gank count as failed, and your team needs to capitalize on the space created by enemy failed gank.. AND you still need to survive for at least those 40 minutes thusly thwart enemy carry's farm.

I can only see LGD.cn be comfortable with that strategy, as they are the only ones i see play safely enough to avoid "that one gank" that would end the game completely.

Risk/Reward with Medusa is just bad.

It can work, yes. Great players will make great plays, and avoid the unavoidable ganks (Let's never forget Xboct getting a double-kill when being 4v1 ganked as Alchemist..) and medusa even has a button that doesn't require a great player!
It's just dicy, and once your one defense fails at an unfortunate time, the game is done.

What happens with Medusa if you lose the laning stage? Just a painful downfall.

(she also is absolutely not a pub hero)

Medusa's ultimate isn't an instant win button, it's actually pretty difficult to use to its maximum potential. You have to make sure people are looking at you, or alternatively that you and your team are taking advantage of their flight away from you.

Also, I have played Lina as a carry more than once, and it's ridiculously fun. I haven't tried mask of madness, but all you really need is a desolator and maybe a bloodstone. I occasionally build Linken's Sphere for stats and avoiding stuns if I get the money, but Daedalus is just as good on her as it is on a lot of right-clickers. (Since her attack speed gets ridiculous with three stacks of fiery soul.) I think my record for most money earned in a single game actually happened playing carry Lina.  :P (Throw on a butterfly, maybe Mjolnir, whatevs.)

Frtompliss and woolsholay withdrew from tournament. RexMundi has been accepted into the tournament.

The consequence is, that I had to change match schedule and loser bracket matches somewhat.

The last game of round 1 will be Umiman vs. RexMundi.


So the last game of round 1 has been played and the winner was Umiman after Sniper/Huskar matchup.

Something I wondered about the rules: Why is meepuh banned?
One meepo will spawn on the other meepo and die to the fountain it will then kill the other meepo and cause a giant death spiral of doom.
