I think we're going to have to wait until they're done porting in all the old characters to get anything new. I assume that will be the official release, once they've got everything the original had. Then they can expand upon it.

Yeah... despite all the characters they have ported so far, they really need to have the full roster for a sense of balance... certain characters are simply good at countering other specific characters, and are generally chosen for that role specifically. With few hard counters to heroes like Nightstalker at the moment, he tends to get fed and stomp games (though that could be due to the whole "morons in another lane feeding the hell out of him and making him an unstoppable force" part).

As far as the character design... this made me laugh. Especially considering... never mind. Comic speaks for itself. (Note: The artist tends to depict himself as the tentacle, in case any of your were wondering.)

Edit: And this one. I really liked the panda thing in the original DotA, but Storm Spirit seems... off.

Kills mean more in DotA. A lot more. The gold advantage is more then what is apparent; you lose gold if you die, meaning you might only be gaining 300g, but you enemy is also losing 300g, making it a 600g difference. Thats a lot more of a difference then most LoL kills, unless he is Legendary or something...
meh, guess thats the thing, if you gank an enemy in lane and end up dying while killing your target, you lose more gold then you gain, and thats probably why dota2 is alot slower because teamfights flat out removes gold from everyone in the fight unless its heavily 1 sided...while its somewhat balanced in its own way, it feels counter productive to group up as a team and 5 vs 5 the enemy team unless your behind in gold.
You manage to kill the entire enemy team, you minds as well take out a rax mid-game or end it late-game. You do either and you are way ahead in gold anywho. Taking a tower is like killing 4 heroes in terms of gold.

Only the graphics and voices are new.
Well damn, there went the entirety of my interest in it. If I wanted to play DotA, I'd play DotA in the WC3 I already have :-\

Not in beta, so I can't see anything with my own eyes, but... that's pretty damn disappointing, that.
Thats been the plan since day one, though. Why did you have interest in it? Were you just misinformed? :P

I'd gladly shell out a couple dollars to get a better looking DotA with promised continual development by a good company like Steam. Just because nothing is new yet doesn't mean it wont get better in the future. Lets just hope we dont get hats.

Taking a tower is like killing 4 heroes in terms of gold.

Not only that but it also gives you map control, which is even more important than gold. When you destroy a tower you deny them vision of that area and a place to TP in case a fight happens nearby.

But yeah, a lot of people make the mistake of not cashing in in towers and raxes after a won teamfight (or even a successful gank on the carry), which can occasionnaly cost the game.

Teamfights are for razing towers and raxes. The only other time could be surpise butts*x at Roshan. Otherwise both teams should go for ganks.
As not-micro intensive jungler I would propose Naix, the lifestealer. After lvl3, and stout shield you can jungle indefinitely.

And Dota 2 is technically copy of Dota now, but without the limitations of WC3 engine. There are many new things, like courier share, shopping from everywhere, helpful ingame info, better stacking of spells, BKB and Linken working better... and there are gonna be much more of them I think.

So, I tried this out and... I dunno. I don't like it as much as LoL. My character doesn't seem to move as fluidly as I would like. It was actually kind of difficult to see the minions, so if I wanted to last hit, I needed to be careful, but the worst part was my character had a rather lengthy delay before attacking. I was not expecting that at all. Is that just something Bloodseeker has or is that something all characters have?

If I had played in a real game, I probably would've been decimated. I think they need the game to move a bit faster after it is clearly over.

Bloodseeker has a long backswing and needs animation canceling, assuming they went for the full authentic experience.  Move immediately after you swing.

also, quelling blade makes it easier to last hit.  As bloodseeker you have beyond nasus tier sustain so unless they have double stun you can probably ignore the enemy to last hit.

I actually find last hitting easier in dota.  If I'm not taking major harass I can usually get 8/10 creeps as a carry or deny hard as a support

No, it's the delay BEFORE you swing that was messing me up. Like, he brings his arm back and then finally hits the enemy.

To answer your question, it depends on your hero. Some heroes have absolutely amazing last hitting animations, others... no. Try Sniper for example, he damages targets almost immediately after getting the order. This is part of the balance. Heroes with crap for animations usually are outfitted with something to help them.

Yeah, my bad for expecting something with a 2 in title to have content beyond the original :P

I actually hadn't read or listened to anything outside this thread (and even that, only barely) re: what the plans for the game are. I was interested because I had an (apparently vain, heh) hope they'd actually do something interesting with it. I've a great love for AoS games, so seeing what they do with commercial ones is of natural interest, yeah. I wasn't actually expecting a good AoS (Maybe a good one of those moba -- which I still don't know and don't want to know what means -- abominations), but something more-than-what-was would have been nice :P

Mmm, but you are looking at a very unfinished game. Remember that. Things aren't even up-to-par with DotA 1 yet, let alone enough to qualify for it's own game. Content will be beyond the original, once the original content is in there in the first place.

Bloodseeker was one of my old favorites; he makes a great laner as middle, and once he hits 6 he can grab the rune and wreak havoc on any overpushed lanes, especially if your allies can get them low enough for you to benefit from your movespeed increase.

I still hate his backswing though. Bloodhunter in HoN had it too. Just takes some getting used to.

I like Faceless Void's last hitting. Not sure why, but it feels a lot better than the others.

Then there's Tiny hehehe. Last hitting? Imma kill the whole creep wave! Leshrac too haha.

All I have to say about this game is that Storm Spirit looks like a porn director, sounds like Cap'n Crunch and is the most fun to play.
Now I'm over here!
