I have a name I used once in a fantasy story I wrote. The capital city was called Pandossus. This could be a name for the country itself, or just be reused as the capital name.

If we can choose where to start, start somewhere with access to water. The last thing we need is to be landlocked.

Like I said, an island nation is a good thing. The only real issue is finding out how to get resources during war. Perhaps we could pull an England and just colonize the places that have the resources to stop our nation from starving.

So, which one? the island nation, the religious state, or the propaganda extravaganza?

Colonization is bad. Similar but different enough things are okay though. The problem with an island is the same as it's advantage - we don't have any land neighbors. Also, theocracies are very bad.

Edit: I vote for Pandossus as the name.

Yeah, ok. Perhaps we want a more peninsular nation, perhaps in a position more along the lines of India. Alternately, we could go for a nation that is placed on a big river, like Egypt or whatever. Also, bdthemag, sorry for adding the location variable to the mix without express permission, but it seems like a cool thing to try to customize.

Remember, your nation is going to be in Eastern Europe. Because that will be where the fun is, so no area's West of Europe. I already have a pre-determined location in mind, so no choosing locations!

Can we at least have a border on the Mediterranean Sea?

Also, being near Mother Russia ain't so bad. It means the United State'll give us free stuff for fighting against the Soviets. Sure, they'll abandon us once the war's over, when we need their help rebuilding, but it's fine cause we'll have all the weapons we need to oppress.

Autocracy? Building an army won't bring in any money. We need to be investing in schools, infrastructure, and trade. We'll probably only be able to really invest in trade at first, but it's okay cause we can just be this timeline's China. Except less communist.

Wait, by autocracy do you mean fake democracy autocracy? In that case, yes, autocracy.

It would be kinda hard to have all of the other countries think your democratic when your not, just saying.

Yeah, my vote for government type goes to democracy, actually. If we have interesting values as a nation, it's not going to be boring, and the added science/populace happiness could be amazing. Basically, any mode of government would work, as long as we can choose an interesting set of values for our government once the actual system is in place. Just because it's a democracy doesn't mean it has to act the way that democracies function irl.
