Well, it is a possibility.

The rainbow-feathered sperm whale pets her hairy goatse.cx image lovingly.

I was thinking more of the lines of being able to understand words that compose items and use them to build up a pet/items/monsters/etc.


I also don't think I will be able to get winmoo to run here. It's because I have 2 network connections. I've tried disabling the firewall, which was the only other thing that could cause this and it didn't help either. I can't disable a single network connection either, because it's part of the network card.

We still don't have a name for it yet. (This everyone can help).

But we have to describe the essence of the game better first. Right now the image in my head is this will be a MIRROR Internet world which elements of the Internet is using RPG GAME concept to interact with (Thinking that the original network designer are huge RPG fan and using it to build infrastructure).

The surrounding in the mirror world is feed from the real world, and your "bodies and arms and legs" are made of crawlers (better terms than my previous "pets" analog). It's build around and using these crawlers/cloud generators, so the surrounding is actually alive. Every object/keywords is not just the meaning itself. But a living crawlers. The best analogy of crawlers is like the star war midi-chlorians. Constructing and making everything in the mirror world happens. How is this sound?

Personally, I don't like the mirror world thing. I'd rather it was like actually being in there.

Plus that would be an entirely different game. You can't really easily teach a program to recognize a troll-bot as the enemy. Which is why I went to the basics, just taking words and turning them with things and letting the human brain interpret them. Since that if you go to a site about parrots you will see words and things related to parrots. The game doesn't have to understand what is a parrot or what it does.

To make yours work, you'd have to program in trolls and very specific settings instead of picking everything out of the actual web.

The post is confusing the original idea with the extension idea, so I separate the post.

Continue with the previous post, A troll-bot who post a link to it's malicious website, will be like a monster making a trap leading into its own creature's lair. And perhaps the mirror world can somehow construct a real world website. The anti-crawlers, who translate game theme in the mirror world back to real keywords and paragraph. It self is base on the troll-bot (dark force) who generate contents may (or may not) make sense to others. And people building a personal fortress in the mirror world can really existed on the Internet. And the nature grounds (lands) are from the open websites. The buildings on top of them just existed in the mirror world. (Maybe in the future we can make the connection bi-directional. Releasing open API that other website developers can used in their website which gather data from MOO server data representing the mirror world in a visual representation or even interactive services).

Troll-bot is the additional thoughts, and I don't think it's possible right now (for the future tasks). The main post is about "crawlers" like midi-chlorians. They make things happened. And each keywords don't make any sense to midi-crawlers. They just translate the "raw" materials from the website into "force" that drives the MOO world. So it doesn't have to construct a meaningful sentence and descriptions at first. A "creature" (players or monster) is a combination of many midi-crawlers' efforts and making things into life (into the form of RPG NPC, PC).

Again, you can't easily make such things as a 'troll' to be recognizable by a program.

In your case, it would be a pre-made game that would have some basis on a webpage. I mean, I personally wouldn't want to program that, as it's not my type of goal. It would be like programming your own settings and stories like a normal rpg and then using a web as background.

I'd like for total clusterfuck madness, completely procedurally made from a given webpage even if it turns out to be non-sense.

As for the crawlers idea, It's not what I'd personally go for, as it would imply in a set of goals instead of a sandboxy exploration experience with a game in it. But it's a possibility if someone else picks this up.

Which isn't much of a problem... Except in my case, thanks to my network card having two network connections. Apparently it cannot deal with that very well. Afaik it should run on vista otherwise.

I think you didn't quite get my idea. It's not a pre-made goal anywhere. Each midi-crawler is self-sustain, like a voxel - the basic unit. Midi-crawlers is just a term of better picturing the crawlers. When a website is fed into the MOO worlds, many crawlers (actually 1 crawler doing many times) will chew the data into keywords and find the related links. Then the cloud generator for creature will construct the body (of creature or players) base on these midi-crawler's output. The cloud generator for environment will construct the inanimate objects. It's the basic block. And a player is actually a set of attribute in SQL database, but is the result of interactions from the low level crawlers. So everything "contains" midi-crawlers (like in star war world). Any webpage can triggered a set of crawlers by their keywords type, than automatically assemble the "objects". (animate or inanimate)

You need server running Linux? But the bandwidth is limited though. (Daily limits)

Ahhh, but then it would be somewhat of a metagame. I think the idea would be for you to be in the web, not that it was being feed into something.

Not sure, I mean, it works as a background story but I'm not sure how I'd implement that. I don't think it fits what I proposed but if people wanna go that way. *shrugs*

I could probably get a box somewhere. I used to have several accounts on random places, but I think they all died out from inactivity. My internet isn't being reliable right now for me to manage a mud that's not running in my computer either, so that's another problem.

If you really wanted to, you could either code in a different codebase or get a cheap old used desktop (I've seen ~$30 desktops in some thrift stores). It's not imperative that this gets made, it's just a cool idea.
