I just want a game where everything is random stuff from the internet, anything, and you can do anything with it, wether trolling it, eating it, using it as a sword, anything.
No need to be JUST about the internet.

Also crafting could simply be about breaking things and putting them together. And it could simply just be breaking an item into items wich are the words its made off, so breaking a soda can, would give you a soda and a can, wich cant be broken more, since they are single words, then you can break that bill cosby and put together the can and the cosby and make a cosby can wich you can store fluids in, wich you can then label if you want, be it "Bill Cosby Merchandise - made from real cosbies!" or "Fuck shit penis product".

All you would need is a weapon your wielding, and glue/gaffa tape/poo/*insert item you picked up on a page*
We need some "physics" though, as in stuff breaking, and stuff merging, and stuff being throw etc. I can code that when the game is online.
Yes to all of this.

I'm thinking about splitting crafting in the following, which is similar to your idea:

By defeating an enemy or trap or whatever, you have a chance of getting fragments. They will be either passive, active, or class specific, such as:

A tiny fragment of Blue (passive)
A vast fragment of Hammer (item)
A large fragment of Goosebumps (active)
A diminutive fragment of Train (creature)
An immense fragment of Wrench (trap)

You can find fragments of active blue for example, but you wont be able to craft them together. You can only craft fragments with others of the same word & type. Once you put enough fragments of passive blue together, you would get for example:

The adjective blue (passive)

Which is an useable item for mixing later. On that point you can either mix another "passive adjective blue" in it, creating a stronger adjective blue (up to the number of letters in the word, so a blue can be upgraded four times) or mix it with another word that is not an adjective. For example, if you mix blue and hammer you get:

A blue hammer (passive item)

Which means it is an item that only alters your stats if carried along. This is also subject to the same rule as before, if you craft a second blue hammer, you can mix both together and upgrade the result up to 10 times in this case. Later on, you could for example want to apply another adjective or noun to it:

A feathered blue hammer (passive item)

And this new item will be able to be upgraded up to 19 times if you have the patience for it.

Since I don't think there will be any levels or skills to be learned by the character, I wouldn't impose any hard limits to the crafting as in, the game wont tell you cannot craft anymore because an item is maxed. You can always add more words to an item. The soft limits will be the number of times you can upgrade an word/phrase, the effectiveness of it's byte size as you may end up with something huge that you cannot feasibly carry along, and some odds of fragments breaking off the item when you craft, decreasing stats slightly.

Passive/Active adjectives might have the following effects:
Passive Item - Nothing you can trigger in combat, just wear it for stats/armor/etc.
Active Item - Will have some activation in combat, such as an attack or an effect or a boost, or a mix of all that
Passive Trap - Hidden trap that waits for you to step on it
Active Trap - Visible trap that you have to overcome somehow, like swinging blades for example
Passive Creature - One of the following: Doesn't attack until provoked (by being attacked or seeing friends being attacked), hidden like a ninja waiting for you to get closer, camper, blocker (will just stand in your way without attacking (until attacked) to mess your movement), coward (will keep running away and hiding behind things), and so on
Active Creature - One of the following: Berserker (will walk in range and attack non-stop), charger (attack, run away), suicidal exploding creature (Shhhhhhh), virus (spawns copies of itself), and so on.

So basically, what you see is what you get.

If you see a blue parrot being a coward and hiding, you may get fragments of passive blue and creature parrot. If it has a green Bill Cosby but never used it to attack, you may get fragments of passive green and item Bill and item Cosby.

As to determine the quality of the words you got, you should be able to guesstimate by the size in bytes or compare it with another word to see the difference. I don't really want to just put stats out there in numerical format, otherwise that might kill a bit of the fun. The number of times something has been upgraded should be visible somehow, however. Kind of like "a green hammer" so you can tell it has 3 upgrades, but no idea how many upgrades the individual words had before. I might put only the highest stat on display, that way at least you know what it is good for.

At least that's my idea.

Why start the upgrade effect from the end of the phrase?
Other than that its sounds fairly good.

So now we moved from theory into game balanced (practical) problems.

I think we can borrowed some idea from microorganisms. What's in the gene code can be hidden (the reinforced part), and only phenotype can be observed (what others saw it). The key is finding a way to translate every possible genes into phenotype.

As the pinnacle of gaming would be to play as a poseable desk lamp questing deep into the realm of FOXNEWS, your progress blocked by a level 12 Bill Cosby with the sweater and the woozle wazzle, and to defeat it with a critical hit from your summoned Nissan Micra.

I think the gene code will be the stats themselves and they will be interpolated when crafting.

Easiest way to do it. Plus there's no real reason for it to remember the stats from the 'parents' as you can only 'breed' them once.

So it's plain code and single insertion (2-point crossover In GA terms). How they appear in the eye of the human means it must be short enough so people can understand. Each gene is supposed to be how short? But human players can coat themselves with fragment genes and only show certain phenotype to other players? What will happen if a player dies?

I was also thinking that professional terms and names are probably needing some extra phrasing, or if you end up in a medical websites, you will drowning in words like hypochondria and anticonvulsant.

They wont be seeing any gene. Well, at most one attribute. Guess-hunting is better than giving people the opportunity to minmax, because they will.

And nothing wrong with those words.

We could also have two kinds of crafting, improvisation, my idea, and advanced crafting, your idea.
I mean, making improvisation work together with physics would be badass, but when i say physics, i think material state(wich would mostly be used for crafting, liquids can be used to mend, rigid for breaking etc.), melting point, etc. Each room would have a somewhat normal temperature, but there would be a chance that you would get your ass fried off when you go into that next room, you could always wear something on you to prevent that, temporarily. Imagine that your plane entirely made from fishsticks crashes over the domain cx, and that cx is mostly frigid, your glue item, wich normally is semiliquid in room temperatures, freeze, and your whale bone sword breaks, you cant mend your whale with your bone sword, the glue is frozen! And in a "fortress" one could do the advanced kind, to specialise..

The ideas are good, the problem is that there's nothing to determine that a domain will be cold or hot or whatever.

Anything -we- determine is not determined by the site you're crawling, therefore not actually created by the site you're visiting. Plus there's no physics or temperature in webpages. They're completely devoid of that. I'd rather have a very alien experience than trying to fit a crawler into the real world experience.

I think that the less we try to abstract to make it seem like something familiar, the better.

That's my opinion for now at least, we will see how things go. If temperature is something people really wish for, I could see if I can make it crawl to weather report sites and extract it from there.

Ps. Been extremely pissed and annoyed this entire week, I already woke up pissed today and in a horrible mood, so don't expect any work from me right now. :(

Pps. Also, I'm not promising anything, it might never be done, at least by me. If I can and find time & patience to, I will get at least something working.

Its ok, as long as theres two kinds of crafting, but if the game goes up i will code that, if i can get a grasp of the language.
Cheer up Soul! Theres many thing, i do not know where you live, but where i live everything is nice and happy, other than the occasional shit day.
Listen to something you like to listen to while coding, i listen to Meshuggah when i write stuff, it tends to make stuff a tad crasier and more random.
If not, go look up a youtube poop or something else you like and laugh at, it always get me laughing, then, wether hours or minutes pass, i tend to get back to whatever i was doing. :)

Would you be able to get it to count things? Count links or stuff inside html tags, like line breaks or colors, or the letter 'e', or attempted redirects. You could use all of those things as things within your environment. The more colors on the page, the "warmer" the page. The more attempted redirects or popups, the more monsters you have trying to kill you (we all battle with them on a daily basis. What I wouldn't give to kill a popup with my bare hands Katana Bill Cosby.) You know, stuff like that? Is it feasable? Will it blend?
