TES 3 : Morrowind - Suggestion Thread (Before we start)
« on: August 03, 2011, 12:39:15 pm »

Surprised to see me? I told you that we're going to tackle Morrowind after we're done with Spain, and we ARE done with Spain.

I have just now dusted my Morrowind, Tribunal and Bloodmoon CD's, and are about to install them, once again.

Now, the Let's Play will be modded, and you - unwashed viewer - have the option to toss in your own suggestions for used modifications. I'm an old Morrowind moder myself, and will use a few of my own babies, but your picks will also be included!

A few limitations :

- No stronghold mods, i already have one picked and will only use that one. Edit : I mean faction-specific stronghold mods. Secondary ones are fine
- No nudity, there are children watching! (besides, the LP will be overly offensive even without explicit sexual content)
- No Alpha mods, the game will be unstable enough without unfinished content
- No Manga / Cartoonish themed stuff. This pretty much excludes any Japanese mod,
- No wings
- REALLY, No wings.

Let's hear it out! (and no, i won't tell you which stronghold have i picked, spoilers are a no-go!)

If any texture suggestions will appear, please try picking dark themes. It will not be a "Let's solve quests and help people!" let's play.

I reserve the right to not include suggestions that will conflict with other mods / the theme of the LP.

Regards

Better Bodies. Yes, there is nudity there, but it's optional and the massively improved textures are too good to not use.

Don't be afraid, viewers! All suggestions that don't break "the rules" will most likely be added. A very good list of possible mods can be found here as well as other places.

I haven't played Morrowind since 2006, but i have some fond memories of it, and i shall share these pictures, for you to know what can you expect from the LP.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Edit : Aye, Better Bodies and Better Heads are two must haves. Keep em coming. List even the obvious ones, because i may have forgotten about one or two.
Edit 2 : Yes, that language was indeed Polish.

Wow, it seems like ages since I last heard about Morrowind. My old boss was a big fan and he was a really cool guy, but I never actually got to play the game myself. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it, Stworca!

Also I appreciate the link to the mods since I'm entirely unfamiliar with the game and hence any mods that go with it, however it seems like a lot of them are texture/graphic oriented. I'd glad it sounds like you're using ones that improve the graphics; is there any reason not to use them? Since you seem like you have experience and appear to be knowledgeable about what you're doing, I assume you're automatically going for any mods that fix bugs or improve graphics or the like? For instance, the first one you linked to on the list was the "True Lights and Darkness" mod which appears to improve shadows and lighting, and if it works I don't know why you wouldn't use it.

I'm checking out that list of mods you linked to right now and I'm trying to find something good to suggest, but a lot of them seem specific. For instant there's no reason to use things like a "Throwing Rebalanced" mod unless you use throwing weapons, etc. Other than saying this will be "dark" (which does make it sound very interesting) are you giving away any other details about what you'll be doing so that we can suggest something relevant?

Anyways, I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out! ^^

if i don't recall badly there should be a mod to use even better textures. something like "morrowind 2010" or similar. but as long as we make something which IS NOT a pure mage, i'm fine even with keeping textures easy vanilla.

Aye, two possible reasons.
- Always Stability
- Possibly Hardware

To be honest i haven't installed any mod other than Blood & Gore just yet.. But i have stronghold mod, bodies, heads and one or two more on the "To do" list. (Oh, right. A lord's men, is also already included!)
I gave you a link to a site with hundreds, if not thousands of mods, i have no idea what can be found there :)

Elaborate? And in Morrowind one should make a jack of all trades character. More possibilities = more gameplay = more fun.

Well you really seem to know what you're doing Stworca. Going through that website you linked to it seems like the majority of things are modifying graphics and the like, but since you're more familiar with the game and whatever kind of stability or hardware issues you'd run into I'll not mention anything more like that. Instead, from the sound of things you're a veteran player of Morrowind? I found a few different ones that expand on the content of the game, which I think would make for a more interesting Let's Play if you're already familiar with the game but haven't encountered them yet.

Enchanced Economics: Adds a bunch of new items.
More Creatures: Adds a bunch of creatures.
The Sable Dragon: Adds a bunch of quests and related content.
Morte!: Adds a talking skull, just for fun (unless you think it would be contrary to the feel you're going for in the LP).

I only grabbed the ones that added a good amount of content in a single mod and were rated highly by the site. All of these are about 10/10. I don't know how many mods you intended to have but this at least adds a lot of new stuff for the LP.

Whatever you decide to use, good luck with it! ^^

I'd recommend the three vampire mods if there's any chance of you going vampire.

Magicka regeneration, oh gods, make things less painful for yourself. Maybe that one (of several, probably. Can't remember which it is) that gets rid of the level up screen and its shenanigans. The unofficial patch stuff, perhaps. I think that comes with an option to jack up some of the limits on the spellmaker, which can make for some hilarious stuff. 1-2 seconds of 500 int is all I need, yesplease. *alchemy* Now that I've made and drank this ridiculously powerful speechcraft potion, let's make a deal!

Well, can leave that out. Probably a little too abusive...

Tamriel Rebuilt.

There's also a number of sailable ship mods out there. Stormrider is the only one that springs to mind at the moment.

Morrowind Code Patch
Exe Patcher v1.7
Morrowind Patch Project
Texture Fix (also look for a version for rocks and another version for trees. I'll provide links later if you want. I think the Morrowind 2010 has links to them.)
A script fixer I can't remember the name of offhand. I think it was like GOTY script fix or something.

There, all the bugs in the game are gone. Now you'll no longer lose work due to CTD's or other annoyances.

What kind of rig do you have, high-end, mid-range, low-end? There's no shame in having a shitty computer, I just want to know before suggesting too many graphical mods. On that note, however, no matter what rig you have, get Darker Morrowind. The textures aren't bad and, well, it fits the LP perfectly, yes?

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

To Serve Sithis: Makes The Dark Brotherhood a joinable faction, where you can engage in assasination missions!
