Ha, as I was typing my last comment you finished the LP, Sensei! XD Thanks for doing this, it was fun to see Oregon Trail again. I think 7000+ is a really high score, I can't imagine anyone getting 17000 if I understand the scoring right. Hearing about your other LPs I'm glad you got to finish this one. Thanks for doing all of this, Sensei!  :D

To be honest I'm not sure how you get 17000 either. But I did!

Number 6, "fakey" is mine. Numbers 7, 8, 9 and 10 are all presumably default high scores, and they're even higher!

I vote that next we try the Organ Trail. You know, the zombie spinoff. (Yes, it exists.)

Sure, why not?

That's Oregon Trail folks! I could have sworn it was harder in elementary school...

So could I... I might install this again and see if it is really as hard as I remember it.

Man oh man... I just pulled out my old copy and went through a quick game. It appears I have one version later than you used here. The hunting graphics are nicer, and also it appears to have been made much harder. I lost food to spoilage almost every day and had to hunt nearly constantly (though I'm good enough at that minigame that I never was in danger of running out of food). On the other hand, part of the reason I didn't run out of food is probably because so few people were eating it - I lost my first person on the first river crossing, the second died of dysentery (obviously), and I made it to the Willamette Valley with just three people (though to my credit, they were all in good health). My final score was 4860, third on the list along with the default scores. (I swear I had the game installed on this computer already, but I guess I was mistaken, had to do a fresh install.)

Is anyone interested in a new let's play with my version of the game? I'm curious if we do as well with everyone's input on the newer version as we did on this run through.

Ha! Sappho, losing someone to dysentery is the classic Oregon Trail infamous death. XD I'm glad to hear you're so good at hunting though, I never had good reflexes so I'm bad at it. If you don't mind me asking, what profession did you set out with?

And yeah, I'd definitely be up for seeing another Oregon Trail LP! It's a small and simple enough game that it doesn't really require a lot of commitment but with five nameable characters you should always be able to find at least 5 people to watch/contribute a name. I would be interested in seeing how your version differs from this version if you do decide to do the LP.

Sensei, it looks like your thread inspired some different people to play the game again. That's awesome!  8) Best of luck to anyone trying to make it to Oregon! ^^

I'm considering whether to do another brief LP this week... I don't have Oregon Trail 2, but I DID find a game based on the Spelljammer DnD setting... hm...

I usually start with farmer. Nearly as high a score bonus as the teacher, but with a relevant bonus to the game in that your oxen don't kick the bucket quite so often.

I don't think I've ever played 2 or above... Would be interested in seeing them. Mine looks the same as this one (mine's version 1.2) except the backgrounds for the hunting screen are different and there's a lot of food spoilage, and I swear I get near-constant bad news. Also I can't seem to keep my health above poor or occasionally fine for the second half of the game no matter how many days we rest... Why not, I'll start an LP, though I'm working 12-hour days this week so I don't know how much attention I can give it until the weekend.
