Spider silk in underground caverns.

I just discovered an underground cavern filled with spider silk. Should I send in the military to clear it out before I go harvesting or should I not worry about spiders?

The first thing you want to check is do you have Cave spider silk, or Giant cave spider silk. If it is normal silk, the spiders that made it are little threat to you. If it is the giant variety however, be careful.

One suggestion. Wall the place off and set up some non pet passabe doors.
Otherwise the cats will rush in and murder all the spiders.

Just so you know, in version 0.31.xx, the presence of giant cave spider silk webs at embark does not mean that there's a giant cave spider actually present - if/when one actually does show up, it'll be just as visible as any other cavern creature (they don't start invisible like they did in 40d).

just tame a small cave spider and make a dorf adopt them,they bite every body and make silk even outside!
