Cats and spiders

How can I keep the cats from chewing on the cave spiders and breaking all the webs?

You could edit the raws to keep the cat from hunting vermin I suppose, but then you'd be saving any other vermin you might want dead.
Best solution would probably be to get a giant cave spider. And use the offending cat as web target.

Cats wander around, so pasturing them doesn't do anything except generate animal hauling jobs. Pasturizing them, on the other hand, always works.

do cats wander around, even when pastured? i haven't used them in so long, but my replacement is cat-sized spiders that have all the cat tags except adopting people (plus, they give webs! ...sometimes) and they don't leave the food or bone stockpiles i pasture them in. just happily run around in said stockpile, killing any vermin they come across

Yeah pasturing cats work, they don't wander out of their pasture unless scared.

It's useful for war dogs, too - no need to waste a perfectly good rope or chain guarding the front door when you can just use a pasture.

Cage all your cats. That will keep them from wandering around.
