"Wait what? No true Capilalists would make the first strike. We have a treaty......wait a minute....THE PROGRESSIVES HAVE RETURNED AND WON THE ELECTION!!!!"Set-up a com-link with the Ross ships and question them heavily about the evils of progressivism.

Roll 17: Firestorm

Locations:

Events:

"The Centauri never fire the first shot," muttered Ad-Hoc Admiral, Colonel, and part-time trash inspector Burton E. Agnew, stuttering somewhat as he spoke.
"We know they're in range... and nobody brings their fleet along for a diplomatic meeting. But command's all stuck-up about it. We''d get in trouble if we shoot now.  I agree with you though, the Ross know we do it like this--they'll wait to get into position and everything before shooting--they'll have the advantage."
Agnew stared expectantly at the officer, whom had just suggested ordering the orbital cannons to fire. Agnew didn't hate the man, but the man was often too rebellious.
"Well then," replied Advisory Officer Roger Hutchinson, standing by the Admiral's side.
"How about we do this?"

Hutchinson walked back to the rear gunner's post, the Admiral's eyes firmly fixated on his back. He excused himself and persuaded the gunner to reluctantly get up out of his chair. Hutchinson grabbed the joystick, brought the rear coilgun to bear on the utility ship behind the Starfury, and fired. The gunner, aghast at the Hutchinson's actions, wrestled him out of the chair and threw him to the ground. Hutchinson jumped forward and pulled his fists up, ready to fight, when the Admiral placed himself between the two crew members.
"Enough is enough. Give me the radio."
A crewman did so.

Quote
"Attention all officers and defense personnel. The Osprey has been hit, I repeat, the Osprey has been hit. All vessels are now authorized to open fire."

The Admiral lowered the radio and turned to face Hutchinson.
"Nice going, I never would've thought of that... really. Command's gonna be fine, provided nobody saw that. Coilguns aren't too visible, anyway. Especially at close range."

-----

Upon hearing the order, Amatin notified the crew of the order to attack.
"But we aren't in position yet!" responded Varron, critical of the order.
"Hold on, just because we're allowed to doesn't mean we have to. We'll just cruise on over to the side of the enemy fleet, perhaps get a better look at them, and then start shooting. We better stay off the comms though, or we'll get traced...

...and turn those shields off, will ya? They won't help much against a bloody fleet's worth of firepower."

"Aye, I'll do that."

Caplus, seated in the pilots chair, set the engines to full throttle, approaching the enemy fleet from the side. It was then when he first saw the enemy ships--their flagship, in particular. It was a Ross Eagle class command ship, bristling with heavy weaponry. Its escort included two dreadnoughts equipped with heavy rams, as well as about 10 battleships and countless destroyers, frigates, and gunships. A few fighter wings few in close proximity to each gunship. The navy back at the station definitely had a large fight on their hands.

"Command, you want a video feed of this? Command?"
"Comm systems are set to one way right now. We won't risk being spotted--those laser turrets in particular can blast us from a few kilometers away with pinpoint accuracy."

-----

Meanwhile, Milia further searched through the cabinets. [5] She found a bottle of world-class biofoam, in addition to three jars of anesthetic and two syringes full of regrowth messengers. These syringes, in particular, were extremely expensive, even within the Aroth confederacy. A single dose was contained in each, which allowed the full regrowth of something as drastic as a human arm.

(Take these items? y/n)

[3] She opened another drawer, finding an old blood pump. With some application of biofoam as sealant, the pump could be used to pump out the junk from ivan's lung before a second biofoam application could seal it.

Milia walked over to Ivan, who was lounging in a chair, squeezing the oxygen back in his lung. Red stains could be seen on the inside of the bag. Milia rushed Ivan over to a hospital bed, applied some anesthetic, [6+1] then told him to close his eyes as she pumped everything out of Ivan's lung, as well as a fair amount of blood with it.

Ivan, now pale, started to see some strange horse-like creatures on the ceiling. Maybe they were trying to visit him...

[4+1] Milia, realizing her mistake, switched off the pump and finished applying the biofoam, sealing the lung. Fixed.

Send-out a relay signal to the Ross Flagship. Try to open a Com-link with them,"Sir, what is the meaning of this attack? No true capitalist would attack first."
Wait, thats an idiotic thing to do. New Action: Slowly creep up to about 15KM and try to stay hidden until The Flagship's back is unblocked by spare targets.
Whats the standard size of these ships? Would 5KM be the size of their destroyer?

Kayle looked at Herros. "I wonder if it would be possible to board their flagship and take it from the inside?" she mused. Probably not, she didn't have the manpower for it. She was the only Cyrian around and she had maybe seven people she could count on. Eight just weren't enough, especially when seven of them weren't warriors. She sighed wistfully and turned back to her control panel, ready to open fire when given the order.

Whats the standard size of these ships? Would 500KM be the size of their fighters?

That is... uh... longer than the empire state building. In fact, over 1250 times longer...

No.

Anyway, fighters range from about 19m (F-22 Raptor, thanks google) to perhaps 30m for the larger ones.
Corvettes/Cruisers should be around 50m
Gunships 100m or so
Frigates range from 200m to something like 300m
Destroyers are 300-500m
Battleships are 500-1000m or more, sometimes
Dreadnoughts are especially well-armed battleships, generally in the 1km+ area.
Flagships range from frigate size to well past dreadnought level. The flagship of the Aroth Vanguard, Asgard, is about 3km. It is, however, virtually immovable and costs a small fortune to move half its own length. That's why it's (almost) permanently in orbit around the homestar.

"Caplus, we will stay 10 kilometers behind the enemy, but we will also remain below the enemy instead of being on the same level with them. That way we'll have a clearer aim at the juiciest parts of the ships - thrusters, storages, occasional engine rooms, et cetera, et cetera.
Varron, look out for heavy pieces of space junk. If you find any, use your powers to pull them along. You're going to use a lot of junk today.
Kayle, Herros: right now, your primary targets are going to be the dreadnoughts' and the flagship's thrusters. Only use Gauss Repeaters for that task - we don't want to be detected trying to shoot down the biggest ships in the entire fleet. If we slow down or stop the three leading ships in the onslaught, the entire fleet will have to adjust to their pace, and therefore give the benefit of initiative to our side.

I wouldn't count on using tachyon bolters against thrusters. Energy weapons in general normally involve heat, but engines are built to withstand heat. The salt driver might work as it's actually explosive (ion weapons are in this universe).

The gauss guns are ironically your best bet if you don't want to be detected. They have no muzzle flash and have no power dropoff at range, as opposed to most energy weapons.
