Then skin an engineer.
I like how you haven't specified whether the engineer in question should be a dead one.

It all helps with interrogation.

"Turned him into a zombie, like I said I would. The spell is putting parts of the target's brain under lockdown so that the person's willpower and cognitive abilities become similar to these of a very young child or an animal, making the target extremely easy to manipulate - especially so if one giving them instructions possesses a leader's body language. People have been making this kind of zombies long before magic gained widespread use.
And even though practice of raising dead is, undisputably, the most popular method of creating zombies, I can name three reasons off the top of my head why my zombies are better-suited for our mission than your average undead. First, it's far easier to shut down a person's prefrontal cortex than to bind a semi-sentient creature's will, and in our current conditions, ease of use matters. Second, most living beings make superior servants in that they can be motivated with all sorts of sensory input and have an intrinsic fear of death. Third and most important is, medical examination will show that my zombies are living and mostly healthy people."

Yeah, but Herros has tinkering abilities, and there's a really awesome weapon in mind I was thinking of hinting wolfchild into crafting that requires a tachyon emitter and something else the group has. We'll see.

Roll 28

Locations:

Spoiler: Enemies (click to show/hide)

Events:
----Initially----
Willem grinned inside of his helmet. Little did the enemy know, Willem had something special in mind for him. The TAK-X9 was classified as a heavy rifle. It looked as if it were a standard rifle. But within the barrel shroud, there were actually five, and each barrel was composed of high-grade cobalt steel alloy, resistant to deformation and heat. Each barrel costed roughly two million 'credits' to produce (credits are really just jargon for an arbitrary standard for the value of currency. Local currencies are inherently a mess, since it is truly quite difficult to establish a banking system on a galactic scale, let alone a planetary scale. Two million is about enough for a small middle-class shuttle.), but this was well worth it, because the gun itself used a complicated firing mechanic involving five rotary firing pins in order to launch multiple bullets through the same barrel at the same time. The gun itself costed as much as a large middle-class home.
[4] Willem pressed the trigger with his finger. The barrels began to spin, and within half a second the gun had begun firing. However, by now, Zakroff had dived behind a crate, and had already fired [2] twice. Both rounds impacted onto Willem's up-to-date patriot helmet, and dealt 36 damage in total. Willem stood his ground.

Zakroff dived to the side, whipping his cloak across his body in one swift motion, taking refuge behind a bundle of crates near a maintenance crane. He questioned himself as to how the guard had been shot in the head twice without staggering. Maybe he would have to rethink his tactic.

----Meanwhile----

Herros began construction of a vacuum pump that could penetrate doors. Why not a drill with a vacuum pump attached? Wouldn't the drill be more useful than the pump? Pfft. The Centauri work ethic works as follows: The more convoluted yet functional a task is, the more the Centauri is inclined to make sure every aspect works. They strive for pointlessness.

...

Herros finished mucking around with the tubing after integrating it into the drill head, utilizing holes in the drill head to serve as an intake/outtake. He then began to work on hollowing out the motor's axle and working on a pseudo bearing to make sure the tube wouldn't become twisted within the machine.

[5: Level up!] With Jaffar's help, Herros assembled a case, trigger, and linked the parts together through it. He crafted gears from the scrap Varron brought in, and used them to fashion the vaccum pump incorporating rubber from the tube and parts of the case.
After finishing his creation, Herros punched a hole in the wall with his gauntlet and pulled out two wires.

[4] "Wow, first guess," he remarked, his snide voice echoing through the room. He linked the wires to the corresponding ones hanging out of the drill. The drill then, upon a pull of the trigger, began to revolve, sucking air through the drill head in the process.

Meanwhile, Jaffar turned to one of the engineers. "You there," he began, in a polite tone.
"Would you kindly give me your ID and Password to the ships Wifi?"

The engineer turned his head to face Jaffar. He then looked at Kayle--standing there looming like death, acquainting herself with the innacurate TAC-9 sights--and then back at Jaffar.

[4] He cracked. "You'll kill us anyway, but why not. I hate this government. The ID is n1njakill4 and the password is swordfish."
Can't say that's a coincidence... I wonder... thought Jaffar.

He saved the codes in a folder on his 'desktop,' and proceeded to heft the smartcannon onto his back. It had no Ross symbols on it, and obviously so, because it was a weapon produced by an independent arms manufacturer. Jaffar didn't think he could find it on the Ross web.

Afterwards, Kayle walked over to the captured guard, and pointed her sword at him.
"Well, what do you know?"
"Look, all I know, is that we were sent to escort these engineers out of the engine bloc. But then, all of a sudden, we heard some crashes. And to make things worse, the stupid cameras stopped working! Command wouldn't open the checkpoint. They've got mounted coilguns, armed guards, and all that stuff behind the checkpoints, and still, they wouldn't even turn the view-screen on! It was like we had the plague or something!"
"Hmm..."

Well...

----Also----

[4: New skill-spellcrafting]Amatin sat down, contemplating. He had just briefed the team on possible courses of action. Now that the team had three suits of slightly busted enforcer gear, three additional people could be sent on the stealth mission in order to make the operation seem more credible. Since nobody, however, raised their hand at his proposal, he decided to compromise. He wanted that enforcer gear used in a way, but most of the party preferred to stay in the 'shoot anything that moves' group.

He had a plan though: Stealth zombies.

He carefully crafted a spell in his mind, drawing some artificial lines in the air around him, acquainting himself with the fundamentals of spellcrafting. He came up with the perfect solution--damaging an individual's pre-frontal cortex would essentially retard their mental facilities while still allowing them to take orders and carry them out. He created a spell to lobotomize his victims, and decided to test it out on an engineer.

[1] He walked over to a fallen engineer.
"Hi there. Mind standing up for me?"
"I can't... These boots are rather tricky..."

Amatin grabbed the engineer's arm and helped him up.
"Thanks, I..."
Before the engineer could finish, Amatin blasted him with the spell, causing the engineer's entire prefrontal cortex to essentially melt as he fell into a permanent coma.

"Opps... Anyone else willing to help?"

[4] Milia then came along, picking up bits and pieces of objects from the engineers that might look useful. Then, she [3] skinned one of them... let's not go into details.

----Afterward----

Varron walked over to Caplus, to assist him in any way possible.
Caplus warned the group not to blow his cover, and proceeded to hit the button, turning the viewscreen on. A large, acne-covered face took over the black panel, staring at Caplus in an inquisitive manner.
"Hi, can you open the door? We got trapped in here, somehow." began Caplus.
"We noticed. The cameras in your sections went offline. In fact, some of them are still offline. Wait a minute, why are you wearing that helmet?"
"My power armor ran out of blinker fluid power. I was one of the guards sent in."
[3+1] Luckily for Caplus, the man bought the excuse and let him in.
"Alright, we'll open the door. I'd like you and that engineer next to you to report to the bridge immediately."
"Actually, wait a bit. There's another engineer I have to bring along..."

Zakroff yelled to the guard saying "Hey we don't have to fight. How about you join me? Lets make a deal, any money I make you get half of it, and then when its all over you can go on your way, most likely with a small bonus for helping the Academy. So what do you say, want to work together, and get rich? Or would you prefer to die here all alone, with barely a credit to your name?"

All the while Zakroff had begun pulling his little toy out of his bag. The Spider Turret was one of his numerous inventions, and was quite effective in an ambush, or in a horde, but at the moment Zakroff's only option was a surprise attack. As he slipped in the power core he thought 'If he doesn't accept my deal then I will activate my friend here, and send it sneaking up behind him to open fire with all its got."

Follow the plan outline above.

Short Version: Try to get him to join me for money after the battle is over. If he doesn't accept send my Spider Turret out to attack him, and while he's distracted by that open fire from my cover, and finish him.

By the way... how about a more detailed conversation system? Here's a quick idea.

Quote
To start a conversation (in an attempt to make a person do something different) you simply tell me to start a conversation with said person.
A person's persuasion level begins below 0. Bringing this above zero will make the other person agree with you.

You have a limited number of chances to do this. Otherwise you'll have to bribe him/her or wait a few turns before starting another conversation about the same subject.

Every mini-roll, to persuade someone you tell him/her something to try and convince them. Depending on your traits and his/hers, this may be simple or difficult. Your roll - his/her roll = number of persuation points you get. You may or may not get another chance, based on context.

Your traits give the other person a bonus when he/she uses something that matches the trait, and vice-versa.

Can everyone specify two or three traits for conversation purposes? Examples would include Reasonable (+1 to logical arguments), Poor Self-Esteem (-1 to appeals), and Aggressive (-1 to violence).

Mini roll!

Willem responded:
[4 vs 3 = +1] "Well, money would be nice. If it weren't for the fact that you Centauri folk are so horribly screwed I'd accept. But as it stands there's no way I'll side with the losers. Any last words?"

(You can still try and convince him)

+1 chance!

Zakroff's Judging skill: nonexistent.

Zakroff's traits:
none?

Willem's persuasion level/chances left: -9/1

Willem's known traits:
-Reasonable (+1 when using logical arguments)

"Well I don't work for the Centauri folk I work for whoever pays the most, and at the moment that is me. I am doing this, so if they win I get a bonus, and if they lose I simply sneak away unseen with half of the most valuable things on this ship gone. You can't tell me that isn't logical after all most of your forces seem to be distracted elsewhere. At the moment we have free reign to steal everything we can find, and then kill off the leader of this ship to cover our tracks. As you know someone else is already on the ship, and they seem to be doing well, so they will do the major work for us then we sweep in, help them out, and get a nice bonus of credits on the side of everything we steal. So why dont you reconsider?"

Amused, Willem replied:
[6 vs 2 = +4] "You're being irrational. I mean, yes, you're right in that we have free reign over here. But then we'd get the police, the military, and practically the whole country out to get us. I'd be willing to join you, but I don't want to give it all up and run away, even if I get to start again well-off.
Besides, we still have the security forces to deal with first. I just can't see two men taking down even a single team of officers. In fact, I think they're coming to investigate the crash right now anyway. So if anything, you'd better convince me quickly or I'm blowing your head off... if I can find it."

+1 chance!

"It's all quite easy, we disappear before they get here, we hide, and set up an ambush, and then when your guys walk in we blow them to bits. Which by the look of your gun is quite possible, and if that isn't enough for you we also  rig up the door  to explode  when they open it, and boom bye bye birdies. As for authorities they cant chase us down if there isn't anyone that knew we were here in the first place. They will most likely think you died if we leave, so it is all quite logical. Of course that isn't enough proof, so I will go ahead, and tell you that some people did sneak onboard, and they came from the Academy. From what I take it they are Graduates, now do you want to face a group of Graduates from the Academy really? From what I heard I am pretty sure they could rip you to pieces in seconds, so coming with me is your only option that doesn't end in your death."

(Couldn't you have just dropped a hint in-game? It's always annoying when the GM ignores you... :\)

Kayle stacked up on the door, laser rifle at the ready. "What's our plan?"

As for conversation traits, all the ones I have in mind are '+1 to a certain type of person, -1 to everyone else' type of deal...

-Blunt (Kayle doesn't mince words)
-Racist (Sort of. Kayle thinks Cyrians are better than the other races and doesn't care who knows it)
-Honest (Kayle doesn't lie, and she also appreciates it when other people tell her the truth)

Amused, Willem replied:
[1 vs 3 = -2] "Eh, you're trying to threaten me. I could just kill you right now. Why should I take your word for it when after all, you might just stab me in the back? Too many hypothetical. I'm through with you! Get out and show yourself!"

Also, I call bullshit on adwarf. How do you know that? Your character introduction didn't mention you having come with us at all and if Kayle finds out you sold us out she will try to kill you for being a traitor and unreliable.

"Caplus will have a plan...right? I figure he can get me in that main computer room...so I can drop this little toad in there laps.". Jaffar said with a grin, holding up the Frenchman chip.

Also, if we're listing conversation traits!

-Archaic Gentleman    (Jaffar has an old fashioned sense of honor. Like, really oudated.)
-Socially Awkward     (Nerd!  >:( )
-Unempathetic          (Not swayed by an emotional argument at all)
-Overprotective        (Makes irrational snap decisions, in defense of those he views as friends)

@SC: We all will. :P
Adwarf won't leave that guy alive to talk anyway, hopefully.

I am bullshitting the dude, or in other words lying my ass off to try, and avoid the fight. From my start I have no idea if i know you guys are on board, but I do know I am near the Academy thus I am using that to help in my lie, and trying to convince him, or scare him into joining me.

Adwarf won't leave that guy alive to talk anyway, hopefully.
That is(Was) my plan :)

EDIT:

Conversation Traits:

Self Centered (+1 to anything that would help me reach my goals.)
Silver Tongue (+1 to lying)
Little Trust In Others

Yeah I second this. Adwarf was a student, I suppose, but his introduction had nothing to do with the rest of the team. It was more like:
"Oh noes, station being atacked! I'll get in a ship and take them out myself!"
This is totally in concordance with lore because the Centauri are extremely reckless by default. ;)

Eh, on second thought, that's a good idea. Never mind then ;)
