"Understood. Utilizing Gauss weaponry." Kayle prepared to fire into the thrusters of the closest enemy dreadnought. It was a good plan; eliminating the enemy thrusters would leave the vessels completely motionless.

I wanna get you guys off of this tiny ship as soon as possible. Not enough room for the plot.

Roll 18: Open Fire!

Locations:

Events:

Caplus reached for the communicator. Suddenly, it moved out of the way.
Puzzled, he reached his arm out once more.
"Caplus, that would be stupid. They won't stop an invasion just because there's one Ross on our side." said Varron.
"You're right... what was I thinking," replied Caplus, surprised at how Varron knew his exact intention.

Then, Amatin turned away from the view-screen and towards the two bridge-mates.
"So, I have a plan."
Caplus and Varron inquisitively turned their heads toward Amatin.
"We'll fly beneath the enemy ships. Remember, the bridge is on the top, they need to use cameras to view us on the bottom, but most people prefer to see with their own eyes. Afterward, we'll shoot at the enemy thrusters in order to immobilize them so they can't maneuver. Then we'll let the orbital cannons do the rest."
"Good plan... lets do it!" Caplus replied.

Caplus steered the ship beneath the fleet, relative to it of course. There is no "down" in space. He then gave Herros and Kayle clearance to fire.
"Remember, shoot to disable. Don't waste time and ammo on finishing them."

Meanwhile, Jaffar overheard the order on the speaker. He was simply running a few tests on the ship, hopefully making sure everything works without shutting it down. The, he got an idea. He realized that he could route extra power to the weapons. For the particle guns, this would help greatly as the damage they do is directly proportional to the energy put within them. The other weapons would also get a nice boost to their fire rate. Sure, the lights would go out, but that's not a problem, is it?

[5] Jaffar opened up the reactor's terminal and programmed a quick script to bypass the voltage inhibitors to the energy weapon hardpoints on the ship. He made sure not to touch the engine, as the ion drives were already running at minimum power to avoid dispersing too many heat signatures.

Kayle received the go-ahead from Amatin. The engine was too big to miss, so she trusted Caplus to orient the ship so that the gauss repeaters could fire. They were mostly fixed-forward simply due to the bulkiness of their internal parts, though they could turn a bit to aim. After Caplus lined the ship up in the general direction of the fleet. Kayle gripped the joystick, making minute adjustments, before hitting the movement compensation switch and pushing the button labelled fire.

A series of sudden clangs reverberated through the ship. The floor shook. Amatin almost fell over on the floor of the bridge.
Varron asked, "Are you sure the enemy can't hear this?"
"Not at all. Sound doesn't travel through space. Anyway, look."

[6] Amatin pointed to the slugs, now departing from the cannons, heading towards the enemy ships very, very quickly. The flagship, the name Aurora imprinted on the side, experienced a major explosion in the rear section directly after the slugs impacted, punching holes in the ship's armor and destroying the systems inside. The ship's fission drives were highly sensitive to damage. It was, in fact, one of the more relatively armored parts of the ship. However, there was no way to armor the openings in the back that allowed the reaction products to escape. A shot to the engine, just as Kayle had recently fired, would sever the pipelines feeding fissile material to the reaction chamber. In other words, things went boom.

The ship, now missing an engine and soon to be missing most of its fuel supply, released a plume of radioactive gas into space. The other engines were immediately disengaged as to stop the vessel from veering off to the side. Meanwhile, the rest of the fleet continued its advance along with the now-still-moving flagship. Blasted newtonian physics. However, on the bright side, the massive hole now opened in the side of the ship could be useful.

And then, the battle commenced. The Ross vessels, equipped with rail guns, initiated its own bombardment against the ragtag Centauri fleet, currently moving forward into their own engaging range. The Mayfly and the Despatch, both frigates, were run through by the near-lightspeed projectiles and were forced  to retreat and repair the hull breaches. Admiral Burton quickly ordered the forward ships to engage position shielding, and the ships that did so accelerated forward to take the lead. The second volley of rail-gun shots was immediately nullified, rail gun projectiles in general having little mass to begin with.
The odds were somewhat evened out by the smashing of the front section of the Corona, the first Ross battleship in the enemy formation.

Amatin received a message. It was from the admiral again.
Quote
"Hey man, I don't mean anything wrong, but I really don't think we can do this through space combat... once we get closer they'll just start blasting us apart. They have a fleet, we have frigates and a few destroyers, plus my battleship... if you can call it one. Perhaps you could... you know, invade one of the enemy ships? Get in there, hack the AI, and turn the ship against them? Your ship happens to have a ram in the front, maybe that'll help, though I don't recommend it."

Kayle smiled. That was a one-in-a-million shot... for anyone else. As a Cyrian that was like a one-in-ten shot on a bad day. "Target disabled. Is another one forthcoming?" she asked over the comms. "I want to put this one through her paces." Flying in a non-modified, non-Cyrian vessel was... fun. Certainly novel, at the very least.

"I suggest we, you know, infriltrate their ship. It sounds like fun." As he said 'It sounds like fun', his face twisted into a slight grin. In fact, he felt quite useless on the ship.

All right. After some thinking, I finally came up with an infiltration plan that we will be able to pull off in less than ten turns. However, it requires a few pieces of information to be revealed by the GM. Nothing the party wouldn't be able to know in-universe, though.

@DBZ:
- After a nuclear engine exploded, I would assume that a certain area of the ship surrounding the affected part has been irradiated heavily, making it impossible to pass without proper protection. Is that assumption correct?
- If so, does Griffin have HEV suits stored for emergency situations(which is pretty likely, given that Ross ships are famously self-sufficient)? Do these suits look any different from the ones used by other Ross ships?
- Does anyone on our team(for example, Caplus or Jaffar) possess knowledge of how to find an AI mainframe in a Ross ship?

Certainly, a nuclear drive uses fissile material for propulsion. What you guys did there is cause that fissile material to leak and ignite, thus blowing up the whole engine block. The other engines are still functional, for now.

Yes, as HEV suits are likely no different from first-aid kits. The ship does have radiation shielding, but under intense radiation that's going to be impractical weight-wise, so HEV suits stored in the medical compartment are a better, more efficient alternative in order to protect the the crew, since the rest of the ship isn't quite as affected by radiation anyway. Watch your computer-controlled equipment though, that might go offline if it's not protected. (The ship's computer is)

Speaking of radiation, I had an idea in mind for a while regarding the Ross having resistance to radiation, but that's only minor. So you won't get sunburns, skin cancer, etc from being out on the radioactive Ross sun for too long. A nuclear meltdown, on the other hand...

Caplus knows it's in the bridge and the general floor plan (as in, the basic gist of it) and Jaffar can wing it to remove it or shut it down and reprogram it.

Problem. Are HEV suits designed for combat? At least 3 of the team seems to be wearing, well pants and jackets.  :-\

They sound like they are more life-jacket than body armor.

Also, Jaffar is best if you need anyone to run through toxic sludge, btw.

Kayle's already wearing an HEV suit. She can escort Jaffar easily enough.
