Varron smiled somewhat sadly as it was his turn, and he stepped up to the podium. "Dear people... Now, I'm not one for speeches, so I apologise if it comes across as weak, or boring. Dear people, for the past few years, I have been here, at this university, living and learning... And for that, I sincerely thank all of you. You may know me, you may not... You have all helped in some way, I assure you. Throughout my stay here, I have learned many things, made friends and possibly enemies... and I am a better person for it. My teachers, my fellow students, my team, all of them are wonderful people..." He paused, sweeping his gaze across the room. "And, if I did not come here, I would probably be a politician or something." He made a sound in mock disgust, and shivering, a small grin on his face. "Thank you all for your time, It is a pleasure to finally graduate!"

Speech it up, take graduation things and special gift, follow team.

Intel has been moved to the first post, for space reasons.

Roll 15

Locations:
Centauri University of the Unknown
-Central Stairwell
-Exam Arena
-Military hall
-Training Rooms
-Firing Range
-Industrial Wing
--Laboratory
--Mechanics Workshop
--Ironworks
-Market Wing
-Library

Actions:

No actions this turn, it's all in the game event.

GAME EVENT:

As the eight graduates finish crossing the bridge, it seeming fades out of existence as the refraction arrays beneath it are powered on. The Centauri vessels, though imperial in style, often have some of the most absurd devices known to man on board. Cloaking devices were first invented by a Centauri, as were positron shields--the most unconventional types, which utilized antimatter to annihilate incoming projectiles. However, one innovation that definitely deserves mention is neutralizer armor, or so it is called. The armor utilizes antimatter charges in order to vaporize incoming weapons fire that would otherwise cause more damage than the charge itself would to the armor. This allowed the famous HMS Morning Star to power through a rail-gun barrage at a key moment in the battle for planet Gaia--the last major battle in the Ross-Centauri War.

Intel Added! Planet Gaia and Ross-Centauri War.

As Kayle stepped to the plate to make her speech first, she was interrupted momentarily by a slight creaking sound. She felt it through the floor. But as soon as it began, it had stopped, and she would continue with her speech. After the speeches...

*ahem*

...she stepped forward to receive her diploma and her token of graduation: A Green Cloak.

The head of the university began to speak, "Throughout history, it has been proven that pragmatics and reasoning triumph over fancy displays of power. A great example of this is our past war with the Ross--their ships are gratuitously ornamented, and their captains are the very definition of arrogance and contempt. As our Cyrian acquaintances have displayed, there is no ornament that can match sheer prowess. This cloak is a token of the valuable lesson we have all learned over time."

Kayle held the cloak in her hands. It was apparently made of some kind of stiff fabric, with black trims on the edges. It had a slight sheen--so much for it being "not decorated." Still, she figured she would put it on throwing it around her back and linking the two buttons on the front. It looked alright, at least considering that she was wearing an HEV suit underneath it.
Kayle thanked the principal, and turned around, the cloak grazing against the stainless steel handrail. Suddenly, the cloak's outer surface became a shining metallic grey.
"Hmm..." She muttered to herself, curiously.

Meanwhile, Caplus received his. The audience's constant cheering died down a bit, but maintained itself in respect. The Centauri had since the beginning had a staunch distaste for the Ross. They were considered arrogant jerks throughout the empire, and most immigrants ended up merging with Centauri society as to avoid discrimination. Luckily, the Ross looked mostly similar to Centauri, so they could blend in without major problems.

"Throughout your years at the university, we've noticed your passion for debate--your perseverance in supporting what you hold as the truth. And likewise, our finest craftsmen have created this to support you in your pursuits."

Caplus received his cloak, made from metal panels inter-weaved and tinted a bright Ross Orange. He had yet to test it, but if these crafters were any good, the cloak should perform well in a combat test. Caplus couldn't help but feel like the cloak was resisting him, his every action with it responded to with equal force. The cloak took a bit of effort to put on, let alone walk in, forcing him to activate his armor's motor augmentations to move around afterwards.

The principal turned to Herros to hand him his cloak. It was colored a steel blue, with black wires noticeably running along the outer surface.

"Your abilities are rather interesting. This cloak was made to take into account your immense capabilities. Wear it with pride, it will react accordingly."

Herros took the cloak, wondering what the principal meant. When he put the cloak on, however, he felt his own energy running through it. He suddenly knew the cloak, as if it had been linked directly with his own fears and emotions. Everything suddenly felt clearer, Herros felt... faster. Not physically, but mentally. He practiced his algebra once again, and surprised himself when the answers practically appeared to him immediately.

Next, it was Milia's turn. She took the cloak. Suddenly, her feet felt as if there was nothing beneath them. In slight panic, she looked down, only to see the ground beneath her feet. She was weightless, and thus, her feet lacked any weight pressing down on them.
"As you can see, a wizard's primary asset is the ability to say out of trouble while fulfilling his or her motives. Without being weighed down with gear, one can avoid damage much more easily."

Afterward, Amatin was given his cloak. A navy blue one, with a large, glowing rune on the back. He stared into it, working hard to avoid getting tense from the implications of his own gift. He placed it on, and his mind exploded with both fear and with gratitude at once. He didn't feel anything strange, instead, he remembered the moment before now as crisp as the present. The rune on the back... it was a rune of knowledge.

"The main ability that a good leader needs is the ability to make good decisions. A leader cannot be stupid, but rather needs to be informative and knowledgeable. We cannot give you all the information you need, but we can make it easier to obtain."

Amatin nodded, before stepping back and letting Jaffar receive his cloak. A black one with a massive realistic depiction of a star on the back. A bit flashy, but the Centauri were known for that. He put it on, experiencing... little. He felt as if he had already been here, which he had, in the past, as part of the half-graduation ceremony.

"A man can never know when he can be caught off-guard... of course, as one gains experience, he will not suffer the same mistakes twice. This cloak was created years ago and sent along with the crew of one of our most audacious travelers. He never put it on, but he had not realized that the cloak was enchanted with the power to learn from its environment and share its knowledge with its wearer. His denial of its power led to his unfortunate demise--don't follow in his footsteps."

Varron leaned forward to get his. Varron's cloak was made for him, specifically. He could perceive its power--it disturbed the natural order specific to the force of gravity. Not one student he had met had powers like him.

"This cloak may just save your life one day. While you are not using your powers, it will take over for you, passively deflecting your enemy's attacks and defending you in general. Don't underestimate it."

And finally, Ivan, almost jumping to receive it, was given his cloak.

"And finally we get to you, Mr... Mr..."

Ivan looked at the principal in disgust. How could he forget his last name. It was so simple, it was...

"Purple. Mr. Purple. Your cloak is something special. It is unlike the other cloaks given to your friends in that we do not actually know what it does. One of our craftsmen created it but died while enchanting it, resulting in an unfinished preparation. Of course, it seems safe to wear, and we couldn't detect any long-term changes in our volunteers. Take it, and hope for the best. It cost more than the others did... it costed money, work, time, but above all, it costed the life of an innocent man who died of his own accord. Respect that."

After Ivan put his on, the audience roared with applause, congratulating the newly-appointed space wizards. Suddenly, the creaking returned. It was louder this time. The cranking of gears could also be heard. The speakers began to emit a high-pitched voice, apparently from the head office.

"This is the station's combat director speaking, I would like to inform our visitors that the station is gearing up for battle stations. The sounds you hear are coming from the station's central turret system. Normally, you do not see the turrets, but be assured that in fact you are in-fact safe behind impenetrable armor and unstoppable ballistic firepower. We do not, however, recommend leaving the stations as you may or may not be caught in the crossfire."

After that, a cold silence overtook the room. Thousands of civilians sat in their chairs, thinking about who was behind the attack, what would happen to them, if the station would be alright, etc. The dead air was broken only the ring-tones of the party's messengers. The new message, broadcast to all students and graduates, read the following:

Quote
Attention all University Staff and Pupils. This is an emergency situation. A fleet of unidentified vessels has slipped past our defenses at the major jump points in the system, and is heading for the station. The station is equipped with a battery of eight MiliTech ARM-9 Coilguns and two Nova High-Precision-Lasers Model III's. While this armament is respectable we require reinforcements. If any party owns a ship docked at our station that is capable of combat, we dearly ask that you man said vessel and meet up outside the station. The Centauri Royal Navy is moving forces to counter this unidentified offensive, but the closest ships on duty are scattered within the nearby systems. The closest regiment, the HMS Unstoppable and its escort, is currently caught within the system's asteroid belt and will be unable to set a course at the moment. Hang on tight and hope that the planet's orbital railgun batteries don't hit the station!

A quick look outside the window indicated that the orbital batteries surrounding Centauri Prime had already begun their bombardment. Centauri forces never opened fire at this distance--in other words, well outside sight range--unless the other force didn't respond to hails for a considerable amount of time.
Then, the party remembered that there was a corvette waiting for them parked in the hangar. If it had a worthwhile armament, perhaps the group could make a difference in the outcome of the battle.

"Gentlemen, I believe you should get moving right now. We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience, but it is due protocol to evacuate all civilians that cannot fight--thus cancelling the meeting."

Kayle looked at her companions. There was only one course of action, and she would have chose it even had fighting not been in her lineage. "Let's get to the corvette. I'll man the weaponry. Jaffar, Herros, can one of you come with me?" she asked, looking at the two. Jaffar she already knew was a competent mechanic and Herros had a reputation for similar; they should be able to make sure the guns were operating at maximum efficiency. Without waiting for a response, she jumped down to the main floor of the auditorium and took off towards the hangar. The sooner she got to the ship, the better.

Head strait to the ship and find-out what kind of Corvette it is.

((OOC: I sincerely hope "enviromental hazards" is a pretty wide range of things lol. My cloak seems sort of useless, unless we're travelling on the planet Hoth for some reason...))

"You got it. I'll get her squared away...I work good under pressure..

Jaffar reengaged his helmet-feeling the comforting smell of recycled air....ahh.

Times like this, Jaffars panic sense kicked in. He could use it-fear, excitement-it made him faster, stronger, better....

He wondered about the cloak though. Gaudy thing. What good would it do for it to "learn" about something *after* it had already killed him? No wonder the other guy chucked it.

Perhaps they we're all playing a joke on him-'haha, lets give the scow-born boy a useless cloak, he'll think it's real'...yeah, they we're playing a joke on him. They we're always making fun of Jaffar behind his back, and this was the last best joke they pulled. He'd inspect the thing later, see for himself. Probably toss it out an airlock for fun.

I'm sorry, i couldn't think of anything not-lame. :P Such as "Cloak of Mechanics: +1 to Mechanics."

Anyway, it should be useful on later missions, especially when giant carnivorous plants are involved. Also, you're not going to fall off a cliff anytime soon. But yeah, it doesn't affect much else. Any ideas? It's not set in stone.

Just seems bleh. What does it DO exactly? Does it give me useful IC knowledge/lore? I could live with that.

Or, does it just warn me not to go near the carnivorous plants or not to jump off cliffs? I already know not to do that. :P

A plus +1 mechanics cloak would suck worse though, so I guess this is better, since it seems all the good bonuses were taken by the time you got to me, and it would have been double lame just to have something the same.

Edit: It's just the 'no direct bonuses' part thats lol. All right, whats the indirect benefit then?

You won't get bitten in the back by random wildlife, unlike your unfortunate friends who will if they happen to screw up during their rolls. I might give a combat bonus vs wildlife, if that makes it more useful.

Against certain monsters, I think it would be nice to have the bonus. I assume it's some sort of adaptive learning cloak that has a ton of information stored in it-make sure to feed me useful LORE, and I will be happy. :)

Note: Sensitized has two turns to go, meaning I won't be able to participate in anything involving combat.

"Herros, Kayle, man the ship's weapons. We need good shots on that, and you two are the best shots in the group.
Ivan, Milia, get to the medical ward. Ivan needs patching up, obviously, and I'd appreciate it if you grabbed a bottle of diazepam for me while you're there.
Caplus, follow me to the bridge. Your Liberty Field will help us identify the attackers."

Give orders to the group. Go to the corvette's bridge and get it moving to the rendezvouz point. Request a status report from the bridge's computers.

Questions about the ship: how big is the corvette in terms of people required for its full functioning? How many people can fit into it without overcrowding? Does it have any crew? How many and which turrets are there on the ship? What are its defenses?

I have some ideas for some things to make when we get a free moment what are your opinions?

 - A system to Electrify the hull
 - An 4C3 frame for everyone, with some custom mods depending on person
 - A replica of kayle's gun, with an unobtrusive flamethrower for close quaters
 - A testing chamber for anything That Jaffar or Herros make / the group finds
 - Personal Radar Systems
 - A bunch of buttons for Ivan that Herros was not sure why he made

Jaffar nods. No orders for him. Apparently he was beneath notice...oh well. Someones gotta scrub those dirty atmosphere filters, and it's not a pretty job-but it keeps everyone from dying.

That cloak just seems made for rules lawyering. Does it increase jump power in any way? Could I theoretically carry the entire station and not receive encumbrance? :P

I'll refrain from that, though, but the concept makes me chuckle. Stuff I could not even lift normally is right out for purposes of not upsetting the GM. So is flight. It'd be annoyingly slow anyway.

Get Ivan to the medical ward and see what I can do. Then do that. A bowwoman is amazingly useless in interspace battles. :P
