"Well, if they're thinking by the same logic as we humans do, then the copper studs are meant to be inserted into the dot thingamabobs. I still think we need a closer look before we jump into it, though."

Examine the pedestal in greater detail: determine what physical objects the black, white dots and the wiry lines between them represent and how many copper studs we have at our disposal.

"Maybe its like jumping a nearly dead battery, we just need to connect the opposites of the dots with the copper studs and it powers the door?" Zakroff said before waiting to see Amatin's insight into the problem before saying, "Or we could do it the old fashioned way and me and Varron can blow that door open."

The studs are fixed into the panel--they are not easily removed. The dots with a zig-zagging line between them are drawn into the panel with some kind of ink.

What parts of the pedestal can I interact with?
Is there anything on the pedestal indicating how to take it apart? Fracture lines, bolts, weld marks, glue, duct tape?

[2] The pedestal appears welded at the edges, with moderate coarse sanding. It is attached to a steel tube that runs into the floor.
[2] It is unclear whether or not the studs are brazed on or glued in.

"I must admit that I don't even have an idea where the riddle is located, so I guess I'll have to solve it the Seathunder way."
Amatin cracked his knuckles and flexed his neck. He loved forcing his way through things, but an outpost of some ancient alien culture was no place to get careless: its defenses could still be working.
"First step: Varron, Zakroff, analyze the door. If you see any alarm triggers or seismic sensors linked to it, pinpoint them for me."

[6] According to Varron, the door itself wasn't linked to any sort of mechanism, although it wasn't clear what was past the door. Something interfering with his powers? Maybe? Or perhaps there was something behind it... that didn't want to be seen.

[5] According to Zakroff, he could sense that it was possible there was a trap anyway, and he could disarm it right away if he could trust his powers.

(Zakroff will disarm any traps next turn).

((@DbZ: Zakroff's Architectural Mastery ability has an unclosed [abbr] tag.))

"Good work. Step two: get away from the door. This might get messy, albeit not as messy as any other options we have."
After Zakroff has disabled the traps, cut a rectangular, human-sized chunk out of the door by Detonating thin - well, relatively thin - slices of metal around it.
If I fail, ask Varron to simply crush the door out of its socket.

"Interesting. Well, guess its back to work for your local blind space nomad..."

Head to Dr Kleyn and very cautiously and subtly ask if there is a "problem" around here.

"Oh, forgot to tell you, he's--"

Adiun didn't catch that.

He headed over to the Doctor, and politely asked, "Hello Mr. Kleyn. I'm one of Winfield's escorts, and I was just wondering if there is any 'problem' around here that I could, you know, help to solve. I don't know much about medicine but I overheard that the Department is taking precautions because of something..."

The Doctor was reading a pamphlet on the table. He didn't respond to Aduin at all, as far as he could tell. No increase in brain activity, either... his head was the same shade as it was when he first saw the Doctor.

"Um....hello?"

Try moving the pamphlet.

The Doctor once again gave no response.

Aduin reached over the table and placed his finger on the pamphlet, sliding it gently to the side.

Dr. Kleyn looked up and pulled out a small portable computer with a keyboard on it, typing some words out.

"Hello" said the computer, in a monotonous voice.
"Sorry for not noticing you. I do not speak. Do you know a kind of sign language?"

Aduin shook his head horizontally, and pulled out his aReader and types up the following:

"Doctor Kleyn? I'm one of the escorts for Mr Winfield. I was just wondering if there were any 'problems' that needed solving.'

He then passed it over to the doctor.

Look at pedestal again, then look at the door, then tap foot somewhat impatiently. After -that- is all done, make sure the crossbow is loaded, functional and equipped.

"Thank you sir, and yes there is a problem--we are worried about the fungus that came from our Flagship and how it got there."

He slid the pamphlet over to Aduin and rotated it so he could read. Of course, he was blind, so he couldn't... but he played along.

"That fungus was not supposed to be on the ship, rather the scientists were supposed to relocate it. Ross command is worried about infestation, so they require us to check everyone coming in."

Dr. Kleyn waited for the machine's green light to flash, then waited a bit before continuing to type.

"I have four devices used for detecting Cytomerase-III, which is an enzyme produced by the fungus and is present in the surface membrane.
I would prefer to use someone trustable but not staff to avoid risk of being fired in case someone is infested, and I do not have proper equipment and there are no hazmat suits available at this building. Would you search for Cytomerase-III in the staff hallways? I will give you a key and this task is dangerous so payment will be given."
