Well, one thing you've done wrong is rank, but you aren't the only one there.

We're doing some kind of dual-class system where you begin at Rank 2 Guardsman (Guard) and Rank 2 _________ (?) since we get 500 XP towards each.
Since you're a Tech-Priest combo, you'd be a Guard / Mech-Wright.
As we gather XP you can spend them on either path, which would raise the Rank of that skill-set but not the other. So if you gain 500 more XP and spend it on your Tech-Priest path you'd become a Guard / Electro-Priest.
