Anyone Watched My LP?
« on: July 31, 2011, 08:18:11 pm »

I'm wondering because I want to start back up again but am unsure of the popularity. Also I'd really like recommendations for how to go about some of the things I talked about way back in 6.5, particularly on how to make free-standing structures without painstaking labor.

Here's 6.5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkywWWD8Gbg&feature=related

And here's the most recent video, 11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXGhrrmJUqM&feature=channel_video_title

Watched first five minutes, I like your style.

EDIT: In video 11, is there a huge pit dug out around your buildings?

Huge pit? If you mean the Commons, then no. The 6.5 video explains the Commons; basically it's a giant open-air (but not open sky) chamber several z-levels under the ground where free-standing structures exist. Carved them out from above.

So anyone got any ideas on how to make free-standing structures more easily than I show in 6.5? Because as it stands it's a real bitch.

Looked at 6.5 and will go through the others.

Nothing to you, I always find myself trying to hit the arrow/z-level keys to see what's going on. Maybe we all do that until we get used to how Urist McNarrator navigates.

But it like it, despite being view 666. Very Uristy, or somethingy.

One thing, and I do not use it yet... Would QuickFort not help you? I have a certain love for <remove designation> <enter> <enter> myself, but that'll be going away soon. (The novelty will wear off, I am sure.)

Your fort/arthritis seems like it may have benefited from it. I really only know of QF what I have read about it, and you may never do this design often, (Maybe you say that in an episode I've not yet seen,) but it is a thought I have.

Anyway, keep it up.

I for sure love to see how others make forts, so there's one fan. I am not asking, but in episode ??, is there magma? Or pain? Tantrums? Failure of a dorfy magnitude? Magma? (Not a question, but it requires 3 answers.)

I am kinda watching #7 now, but it is morning, so I will miss a bit. Not yet coffee. (This explains all, as far as I am concerned.) I'll watch more after work. Now, caffeine!

May you beat up your day with the sturdiness of a dorf. Wiv an axe or hammer or pick. (We will accept applications of the day being killed by swords, arrows, chickens, horses, random body parts, specifically named body parts, ...lots of things... You will find that the death of today by almost any method is quite fine by us. Might get an engraving or a statue, you might. I can assure you that however a day dies, we will talk about it. But you knew that.)

The cat, Anom, approves of Scamps' methods. She admires fine scars on her human's body. She purrs in a method most disturbing. She thinks Scamps needs to train the human better. She rolls on the floor in a luxurious pile of catnip. She attacks her human lightly.

Can I see the buildings in stonesense somewhere? Would be neat to see the architecture in 3D.

These days, I don't watch much DF stuff like this, but when I was first starting, it was a real life saver. Even if interest seems low, keep it up and build a solid library - it's far more attractive to new viewers/players to see "this guy has 40 videos! awesome!" rather than "this guy has 5 videos and is awaiting positive feedback before continuing..." - just do your thing, and do it because you like doing it :)

As far as free-standing structures go, I honestly don't know, but was planning to do something similar myself. I'll definitely be watching your videos to see what happens, and I'll hit you up with any tips I come up with. My usual MO is just painstaking designation/waiting and occasional save-scumming when I cause a disaster.

At first I thought My LP stood for My Little Pony. Nice videos though.

I think I'll be recording later today then, as soon as I can get an operable software.

Hi Kalalification,

I've just started watching your LP and I'm really enjoying it. Only on the second video so far but I like seeing the more dwarfy fortresses with pillars and big crafting rooms rather than super efficient cubes. I also share your hatred of up/down stairs. :)

I'll keep watching and give more feedback when I get further in.
