Itll be called "Fuck the nineties", where we take everything that made that decade great and either ruin it or overshadow it with something that sucked from then that we brought back from the dead.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

I called 2000-2009 The Oh-Ohs.  I guess 2010-2019 would be The Tens or The Teens yeah.

I call it the twenty-ecks-de-eckses, which is a bit of a mouthful but I find it catchy.

I like "the millennials" for 2000-2010 and am guessing that we are going to call 2010-2020 "the suck."

Guys, we've been in this decade for two years. Things are going to be better in a few years, quit doomsaying.

Not that it diminishes your very valid point, but I seem to remember you used to doomsay quite a bit.

You are right, I never actually thought that America would fail like this in my lifetime, now it terrifies me to consider how close we are to the brink.

Guys, we've been in this decade for two years. Things are going to be better in a few years, quit doomsaying.

Ever heard of the lost decade of Japan?  Lasted 9 years and they at least had the ability to export to fast growing economies in all their trade partners.  Ever heard of the Long Depression?  Lasted 23 years...  And there are plenty of finance panic driven recessions that have lasted a decade or more throughout history including of course that great depression.

In the post war period we had macro-economic stability because we had competent leadership in the major economies.  These days both the Anglo-American and E.U. political systems are doing really stupid things (cutting spending while depressed and hiking interest rates while depressed respectively) while Japan is stuck in a demographic decline.  Thus baring a HUGE political realignment or a major change in the breeding habits, half the world economy is going to be chained to stupid, self destructive policies that will inhibit growth.  We should expect a sucky decade if nothing changes.  I just hope that the economic stagnation doesn't last forever.

O'Neil cylinders for the win!

Using moon materials to build O'Neil cylinders and solar powered satellites to beam electricity back to earth would give us an unlimited frontier to give vitality to our economy in the 20th century and beyond!  Any excess labor could just be put to work creating more, highly desirable real estate in space.  The cycle would be self supporting until eventually all of humanity is living in a land of essentially unlimited power, resources and land.

Is it just me, or does this sound like the setup for yet another Gundam series? Except in real life. Which would certainly not be a bad thing, apart from the colony drops and general bloodshed.
