Having never even heard of Arsenal of Democracy before this is a very cool thread to see, Hyo! I'd really like to be able to understand the screenshots and mechanics better so I'm going to try to look up more about the game, but any kind of explanation when you update is always appreciated!

If I'm understanding things correctly it seems like you're really well off at the start of this, so like you said yourself I really don't think you have anything to worry about no matter what you do. Still it's going to be interesting to see how things develop from here. I'm looking forward to seeing how the invasion of India and Japan goes, and hopefully I'll be around to contribute something next time you ask for audience participation.

Thanks for doing the Let's Play, and good luck with everything! ^^

Well, the only problem really stands RP-wise. For example, if Stalin began starting war on massive fronts, and especially if Stalin threatened Great Britain and Japan, Hitler wouldn't have just sat back and watch it happen. There would have been German intervention, regardless whether my forces are more than a match for the Germans or not. However, that is no worry due to AI mechanics.

Also, there's the Soviets and the Japanese have a Non-Aggression Pact with each other - which is not represented by the game mechanics properly (Historically, this stood even until the Soviet intervention in East in '45; the Soviets were breaching the agreement by attacking Japan, which was why they were so overwhelmed by the Soviet forces as they smashed through Manchuria). It's the Japs we're talking about, but international reputation suffers heavily with this kind of thing. Especially with recent Soviet aggression (including that of Great Britain).

Also, Soviet intervention would have infuriated both Mao and Chiang, alienated the Chinese. Of course, I could strike Manchuria on the claims that I intend to return it to the Chinese (and give it to Mao), it would be deemed suspicious and the Soviets would meet high amount of hostility, even with the Communists; the Soviets and the Maoists haven't exactly shared a lovey-dovey relationship thus far.

The relationship means that if we ever degenerate into a Cold War like situation (which likely will, considering the world's hostility to Communists and the bad reputation the Soviets are racking up; World vs. Comintern), the Chinese Communists would be much less likely to stand on our side.

Not to mention that we should've gotten embargoed the US already, even without declaring war on the Allies...

But hey, it's not like the AI actually cares.  ::) But I will try to simulate the political and diplomatic situation the Soviet Union undergoes as you viewers continue to make insane suggestions.

As for a mini-update...:

I just say the other thread of this, Hyo! XD You stepped up from being a military commander to running the entire nation, huh? Nice.

Anyways I really respect you trying to do this from a story perspective but from the sound of things the mechanics won't let you. It's entirely up to you as to how you want to handle things, but of course I suspect everyone is going to expect you to take over the world. That is the goal for this Let's Play right? I would have voted for invaded China and Japan if that had any chance, so if it's not jumping ahead I'll suggest invading the Japanese controlled Chinese territory during the Japan campaign as a preliminary to conquering the entirety of China-essentially just like what you mentioned in your last post.

But all of that's in the future. For now I'm just looking forward to your next update. If you don't mind me asking, should I read the other thread or will it spoil anything for me? Also, do you intend to do things like the other thread did or do you have a different plan?

Anyways, again I'm impressed that you'd even think about trying to do a story focus, and particularly that you know enough about actual WWII history to do so. The alternative history aspect of the game is particularly appealing to me, especially since there were real life events like the Russian-Japanese war and it will be interesting to see how this turns out as a "what if America didn't join the war" scenario-though admittedly many things here are already different besides that.

The Allies may be screwed, but I'm sure that can only lead to ULTIMATE WAR with Germany.

More led to an ULTIMATE BREAKDOWN by me.

I hate you, SMEP, I hate you.

Seriously? I lose everything I gained, all the bloody shit I had to go through to invade the home islands and start island hopping, and you suddenly pop a surrender event at me? One that doesn't even give me Korea?

The UK surrender event was stupid and a choice no sane Soviet player would make, but the Japanese one is equally as awful. Worse because I forgot to save before it and I accidentally chose to go with it. ARRRGH! I hate it when events pop out at you out of bloody nowhere and you click on something that wastes several hours of your gameplay.

Mini-update:

So... this is basically the (horrible) state of things we have in the Far East right now. I accidentally signed a peace treaty giving me Manchuria and Inner Mongolia, but honestly - I don't care about those pieces of shit.

My goal, and presumably the viewer's goal was to get at the very least get Korea into Soviet hands. This treaty currently leaves us with no territorial gain at all.

Of course, there may be some thinking that those territories are gains in themselves - they aren't. Now that this happened, the Chinese Civil War events will soon fire, and we will be giving those territories back.

Now, before any of you call the NKVD on me for being a traitor, Communist and Nationalist China both have events once they have won the Civil war that increase resource production in China. These are the only events that increases resource production in the game. Ever, and I want, no need them, and if I don't give it back to Communist China when they ask for it, I won't be getting any resource bonuses in Manchuria and Inner Mongolia.

This situation does nothing beneficial for us except time and supplies (and men) wasted in the Far East. To me, personally, though, it's also a pain because I have to reorganize my armies again, all the way in Moscow (and I keep single-division armies, which are a pain to do so). It also means that another immediate offensive against Japan is implausible to say at best, because nearly our entire forces out there is now gone, due to the surrender events.

We can honestly just bear with this and keep going, or I can replay this back from June and hope to achieve better results (which I probably will, having played through it already). I personally prefer the latter option, although I have decided to let the viewred decide.

I don't really think I've seen a Let's Play before that restarted from an old save like that, seems more like the kind of thing a Tool Assisted Run would do. Here's a list of cheats from Gamefaqs; these might help you out if you want to jump back and replay the six months. I don't know how easy the files Arsenal of Democracy are to edit but the easier solution would be to just edit the RAWS so you control whatever territory you want.

If this is supposed to be a realistic simulation though, in real life things don't always go according to plan. Voting for the Treaty because you said you didn't want to re-declare war, but please count my vote for both, or anything that doesn't involve meta-gaming (like jumping back in time).

Mm, I guess I was whining there with the rant. I suppose that it would be right to go with what I did, even if it is a mistake.

But still, I do not, and will not use cheats in my games, even if I am supposed to redo this scenario. Having experienced what's going to happen is gamey enough; I'm not going to go and blatantly do such things since there would be no point of doing this thing in the first place.  ::)

Wow, that's depressing.  I'm voting to restart from June, as that seems the only fair choice for Hyo.

My advice: More tanks.  More airforce.  More marines.  We're seriously unprepared for fighting the Germans.

Build the above instead of standard infantry (especially Marines), we've got more infantry than anyone else.

It isn't really cheating to go back at this point. Everything bad that happened did so because he accidentally clicked the worst possible option on an event when it popped up. That's not really a legitimate screw-up.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Long story short, I redid it, thanks to the votes of the viewers. Here are the new "borders" in Asia and Europe for now; I'm too lazy to write a proper report, but it should be enough to satisfy you lot until I do.

Note that all newly gained territory (except Manchuria and Inner Mongolia) are all occupied, not owned. Because we rejected the peace events for the respective countries, we now have no way (as far as I am aware of) of ending this war other than complete annexation. Well maybe not the Allies*, but Britain at least - all of which will take around a year and a half to build up a proper navy that won't blow to bits every time it meets Allied ships.

The Allies include Canada, and occupying Canada causes an event in which the United States automatically allies with Canada, thus joining the Allies - which is obviously very, very bad.

While you wait, however, a short list of things that happened so you can catch up:

1. June 26th The Soviet Union and the United Kingdom broker an agreement of which the Soviet Union is to supply the United Kingdom with 30 units of supplies per day, of which the United Kingdom is to repay later over the course of an undefined period of years.

July 1941: The Soviet Union declares war on the United Kingdom and the Allies. The Allies, caught off-guard and unprepared, begin fighting a relent assault from the Soviets as they are struck on multiple theatres, including an amphibious invasion of the British Isles.

2. July 6th Conflict erupts in South America in which Equador and Peru declare war against each other when Peru attempts to force claims on its neighbour.

3. July 22nd The Soviet Union declares war on the United Kingdom, and war is declared between their allies as well. The world watches with shock at this backstabbing as Soviet troops march into India and the British Isles.

4. July 23rd Sheng Chicai takes a dubious footing when it begins to break free from the Comintern on the claims that it feels that the Japanese threat is growing and that it wishes to ally itself with the Kuomintang. No comments have been released by Chiang or the Soviets regarding the matter.

5. July 24th The Republic of Turkey declares war on the Soviet Union and is followed by the entry into the Allies on the 26th.

6. July 25th Peru annexes Equador while Japan forcibly seizes control over the whole of Indochina. Vichy government does not comment but officially cedes the occupied territories. Tension erupts between Japan and the US, with the latter forcibly freezing all Japanese assets and commencing an embargo on the 29th.

6. July 26th Soviet troops establishes control over Southern Scotland, including the city of Edinburgh.

August 1941: Soviet troops continue to pierce through India, capturing the major city of Delhi in the early days of the month. Battle rages on through the British Isles, as Soviet forces continue to stabilize and mop up remaining British forces in Scotland, while continuing to push down, reaching as far as Cheshire to the West and parts of Lincolnshire to the East. Soviet advance is quickly blunted by additional Allied reinforcements and quickly trained militia forces, but is not stopped.

September 1941: The Soviets declare war on the Empire of Japan, violating the non-aggression pact they share and the surprised Japanese troops are pushed back against all fronts against the Red tide. In India, Red troops find little to almost no opposition, and Northern India quickly succumbs to Soviet rule, as the Red Army captures cities of Bombay and Calcutta. In the British Isles, a stalemate forms for the first half of the month, as the Soviet suffer from logistical problems by the Royal Navy, but the Soviets eventually advance, capturing all of Lincolnshire as well as Wales, forcing the British to a defensive position from Gloucestershire to Leicestershire to Norfolk.

7. September 2nd, 1941: The Soviet Union declares war against the Japanese. The Japanese are shocked at the betrayal and blatant violation of the Neutrality pact of only five months earlier.

8. September 4th, 1941: Tojo Hideki rises to the position of Prime Minister in Japan, as the civilian government is deemed fools and forced to resign. Prime Minister Tojo's ascension to power reflects the Japanese attitude towards war.

9. September 9th, 1941: The Republic of Turkey surrenders to Axis forces as German and Italian forces smash through its western coast despite Turk resistance. The Republic is forced to have a new puppet government in place, while they cede their Mediterranean coast to Italy, and all possessions in the Balkans to Bulgaria.

October 1941: The Soviet rampage continues, as Soviet forces begin their first steps into British Burma while cleaning up Southern India. In the Far East, Manchuria continues to fall as vast swaths of undefended territory come into Soviet hands while the Soviets smash through the Korean peninsula. In the British Isles, a cloud of despair sets onto its population, as the island is now all but under Soviet control, and the siege of London begins.

10. October 7th: In a strange turn of events all the way halfway across the world, Bolivia declares war on the Soviet Union.

11. October 18th: British Isles fall under Soviet control and the siege of London begins.

12. October 19th: The Soviet Union declares sovereignty over the lands of Bhutan and Nepal, former colonies of the British Empire.

13. October 28th: The Soviet Union annexes the Japanese puppet state of Manchukuo.

14. October 29th: The Soviet Union declares war on the Republic of Ireland.

November 1941: India is fully occupied by the Soviet Union, and the Red Army continues its push into the jungles of Burma. They face significant opposition as the Allied reinforcements from the Pacific has arrived and set defensive positions, only enstrengthened by the numerous Jungles, of which the Soviets are not accustomed to. These defensive lines cause significant casualties and delays, with the Red Army having only captured Rangoon by the end of the month. In the Far East, the last remnants of Japanese forces in the Korean peninsula is wiped out and Manchuria has come into Soviet hands. Soviets push towards Inner Mongolia while the remaining Japanese forces find themselves cornered by Japanese and Kuomintang forces.

14. November 10th: Peru, following its neighbour's example, declares war on the Soviet Union.

15. November 27th: In one of the only Japanese offensives attempted throughout the war, Japanese forces land around Petropavlosk in the North, but struggle with the cold weather that they must face to make any significant strategic operations.

December 1941: The long and terrible siege of London continues for the British, while it is a month of wrapping up for the Soviets, as they finally stabilize Inner Mongolia and the rest of British Indochina. Japanese struggle with what territory they have left on the continent while Soviet forces prepare to smash through Siam and capture the rest of Indochina, including British Singapore.

16. January 1st: The Siege of London is over, as the Soviet soldiers raise the Red flag over the parliament building. It is naught but a symbolic victory, however, as the parliament and the royal family have already left the city weeks before. Meanwhile, Mengukuo capitulates to the Soviet Union, establishing Soviet rule in Inner Mongolia.
