I would support capital punishment in a perfect world, but it's naive to think that an innocent will never be falsely found guilty, as others have said. The pain in the execution isn't really a concern of mine, as if we've decided that someone has committed dire enough offenses that they deserve to die, we shouldn't be squeamish about how they die.

How very cosmopolitan.

That doesn't make much sense. That position will have to be predicated on the premise that either death will always be painful no matter what you do and that any and all suffering during an execution is unacceptable. The first claim that all death is painful has some grounds since I don't think humanity has found any method that guarantees a quick death short of being instantly incinerated or blowing apart the brain case.
The latter claim that  one however isn't such a strong one. Mild discomfort, I think, would be tolerated by many people as a consequence of execution- if they have no choice but to pick a method of execution that is.

I can't believe people here ACTUALLY discussed about ways to seriously kill people for 8 pages.

You know what?

Just try crucifixion. Who knows? Maybe when people see these bloody examples they will be more reluctant to murder.

This is worse than murder. It is the murder of soul of humanity.

Take a look at this. His son is dead and he isn't even thinking about killing the murderer. Do you wonder why? It is a thing that makes us human. If you think those murderers are insects, waiting to be killed, and/or experimented upon... You are far much worse than them.

This topic is simply insane. Whatever. I guess I'll play some violent games and laugh at people who says violent games can make people violent and can lead to murder.

I studied it.

Outside of using science to disable chemical inhibitors to pain it is pretty much the perfect execution device for spilling every inch of pain possible out of someone.

Heck they die of suffication! Heck at one point their suffication will be so much that in order to breathe they will need to painfully feel the split in their legs.

I love that guilty-by-association map on the first page.
It isn't guilt-by-association, it's meant to show the general correlation between nations known for human rights abuses and nations that execute criminals. If that was my only argument it would be guilt-by-association, but in the whole of it the map is only a single point among many.

This thread has a lot of silliness in it, to be honest.

It really means absolutely squat who else besides the US has the death penalty. No, nazi germany and communist china having the death penalty does not somehow mean the US should not. Hitler ate sugar, and all that.

On the other side of the aisle, support your position with more than "I like the death penalty because I'm conservative." No one really gives a damn about that; we want to hear your reasons, not which people you associate with.

I'm anti death penalty because I don't think one's actions can strip away their right to live. They're human no matter what they do, what they think. Some people need to be isolated from society to prevent them from causing more harm; I'm fine with that. I'm not fine with petty vengeance, nor any of the cute euphemisms for it like "closure." Raising the body count by 1 does nothing but promote the idea that killing someone is an acceptable way to get even with someone who wronged you.

They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Fuck me, I meant Mengele.

 Thats just mean.

Grimshot already answered why he thinks his ideas aren't insane: these people aren't human to him. The question you should be asking is how he plans to keep innocents from suffering these horrible fates. After all, our current legal system is far from perfect.

I'm thoroughly interested in hearing more about Grimshot's position, if only because he's giving me lots of good villain and anti hero ideas. The best ones are based on real people after all.

Well, to get right to the point, there is no way to ensure that no innocent gets convicted, at the moment anyways. I would say the justice system needs a revamp personally.

There are steps that can be taken to help decrease the chances though. I would probably be satisfied if only convicts who confessed or had solid proof against them were selected, and then I would have the case reinvestigated incase anything was missed. I would then probably have a panel of unbiased civilians determine via majority vote if the potential subject was suitable. Corruption in this process should result in capital punishment for those involved. If there isn't enough proof for the panel he goes back to prison to wait for execution or retrial.

This would obviously require more than just my input though.

EDIT: Also, yeah, I'm nearly a walking stereotype, big whoop, wanna fight about it?

I support the death penalty.
Perhaps even make it a public thing, as an example to others. (Then again, I may just be a sadist. ::))

Some might argue that it may not dissuade people from crime, but it will eliminate those who did it.
I believe that if you can do it once, you can sure as hell do it again, so why not cut them down instead of wasting effort/money/manpower by trying to imprison them and have psychologists work with them in the vain attempt to change their ways? It's far cheaper to put a bullet through their head than have them rot in a cell for 25 years, during which all they could do was think about those that imprisoned them, and finally release them because they "have found Jesus, no more crime. K lol?". Then everyone bitches and moans when that same criminal starts killing/raping/stealing again.
Alternatively, the crimeboss bigshot sits for 5 years because lolmoney/lolconnections/lolnotenoughevidence after which they go back to their "business" as if nothing happened.
Wouldn't it just be best to eliminate the cancerous element as soon as discovered, before it has time to grow?
Call it inhumane and cruel, but it's effective.

As for the occasional innocent? It's a small price to pay in my opinion.
Say what you want, but a police-state/totalitarian government a la Deus Ex would not be that bad.

Stas > you'll just get a more violent society where murder is more common. As for the totalitarian state, wait until you(re the target, or your son is caught with a bong.

Alternatively go live in China, and then tell us if it's so good.
