Change "Save" in the menu to "Save & Exit"
« on: July 28, 2011, 06:35:35 am »

I had a hell of a time working out how to leave the game without using Abandon Fortress. I hadn't manually saved as it had just autosaved. Changing the "Save" option to "Save & Exit" would help the newbies first experience of the game.

This is a very good idea, (and also seems like something that Toady could implement almost laughably easily if he sees this)

I agree with you.
I had a lot of trouble as a beginner with this too.

Actually, I would like a "save and continue" as well as a "save and exit."

There probably aren't many times when I would use "save and continue", but there are a handful of times when you're testing a buggy mod or something that it might be nice.

You should die horribly for this. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.

If people see a "save and continue", they will assume they can save, try something, fail and then will be confused when they can't find a "load save" option.
It'd be better to label it as "make a backup" so as to differenciate with the usual concept of saves. And that would probably still be too much to prevent either savescumming abuse or confusion.

Make a backup sounds nice, as it implies save-scumming is a work around, not a feature, which is the way I like it.

Eh, this game is too roguelike to have that. 'Twould cause save-scumming.

There's no save and continue as you aren't meant to be able to savescum, we have autosaving for backup just in case it crashes.
