Mac-Keyboard: Secondary Select Keys don't work
« on: July 27, 2011, 08:09:09 am »

Hi everyone,

I recently tried to get into df but get already stuck in embark preperation due to technical difficulty. I searched everywhere and found some solutions but none works. So I'll be thankful to every idea.

I'm running version 0.31.25 on Mac OS X Snow Leopard on a MacBook and tried 0.31.25 on Xubuntu 11.4 which runs in VirtualBox. The keymap is a german standard QWERTZ.

While embarking I select "prepare carefully..." and switch on the right side where I can change the points for each profession. The secondary selector (standard +/-) shall change them, but nothing happens in my case. I tried it with Fn+'+' and Fn+'?' as mentioned in an older thread. I also changed the key bindings to several other keys but still it has no effect. It saves the bindings and they are there after a restart (seems that was a problem sometimes).

I have no idea what else to try; can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance,

Moerk

I believe going into your data/init/interface.txt and changing [SECONDSCROLL_UP] and [SECONDSCROLL_DOWN] to MINUS and PLUS should work.

(The default is SUBTRACT and ADD, which doesn't seem to work for mac keyboards)

Hmmm. I had this issue. Let me just go and check my set up.

Nope. Mine are set to - and +.

I can recall having this issue, so if you trawl the forums with the right search words, you'll find the answer.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.

I tend to rebind  secondary select to [ and ], and use - and = as page up and page down. You should be able to do so without needing to open the init fils, just go into the options and rebind those keys. Also, if you want to use delete, you may need to rebind String Character 127 to anything else then what it is now. As is, hitting delete will make little triangles appear.

Nice one, not sure when I'll be feeling like killing a baby but these things are good to know.
This is why we can't have nice things... someone will just wind up filling it with corpses.

I have rebound them to different keys, also standard letters and no special chars. The rebinding seems to work, but pressing the key still ends in no action.

I've searched a lot and found some threads with similar problems but none of the solutions works for me. Maybe I use the wrong keywords. I'm german and try my best; maybe I'm lacking of the right words. Suggestions?

Ahha!
I believe I've remembered how I got it to work. It was an issue with which -type- of binding you make it.

Things can be bound by letter or by position. Try binding it to - and + as letters, since I've got them bound as such, and it works perfectly.

Then someone is casting dark voodoo. Find and bury them in a casket made of wicker, with salt, the hair of a newborn and a handful of gunpowder in a pouch made from the skin of a lamb. The curse will be lifted, and you'll be able to get the bindings functioning properly.
