Sleep Deprivation, Hallucinations, and you!
« on: July 27, 2011, 12:16:38 am »

So, whats your funniest/scariest/weirdest hallucination from sleep deprivation youve ever had? My strangest was when I played a Hitman marathon (22 hours ftw!) and I walked around the next day and seemingly at random, would see the health bar and suspicion meter pasted on to the bottom left and bottom right side of my vision. It got kind of annoying after a while.

Well, it wasn't sleep deprivation so much as lack of sleep, but one morning when I was woken up for school in my still half-sleeping state my mind created an image of playing Starcraft and I became a Terran Command Center. I had to click the Fly/Ground button to move myself around the house as I did my morning preparations, and wasn't able to move without first changing modes on my mind's game screen (including a slight delay that matched take off and landing animations).

One time, I stayed up playing Doom for HOURS. Eventually, I kept on hearing the noises that the monsters in Doom made, even though I wasn't playing it (Revenant, zombieguy and "pinky" Demon, to be precise). I didn't play it for a while after that :(

Do head injuries fake memories count?

Anyhow I hear voices when I am perfectly awake sometimes. Though I attribute that to my vivid imagination.

Well I remember that once when I spent extremely long times playing the Xbox 360 when it came out, then the next day i'd start hearing that achievement unlocked sound at random times.

Does accidently taking to much sleep medicine count? Because I woke up the next morning thinking my skin was made of paper, and other wierd stuff happened.

I've had auditory hallucinations after playing Planetside for far longer then I should have. I heard cloakers drawing weapons behind me every once in a while. I think I even heard the cloak activating several times too, memory is a little hazy on that though. It was probably after a night of heavy sniper rifle use. Those guys just love shooting/shanking/blowing up snipers from behind.

Also, playing to much TF2 results in me hearing a Spy Decloaking everywhere I go O_O

It freaks people out when I suddenly turn around and shout out "SPY!"

I've never really had any hallucinations or anything from sleep deprivation even after staying awake for more then 48 hours, the worse its gotten for me is short term memory getting screwed up and a losing touch of reality, especially if I've been playing something a lot.

I, for one, always have to same symptoms. start hearing lyrics from music in my head uncontrollably. Like actually hearing it. This happens all the time. I feel an infinite compelling force to start singing or humming it in a soft voice, even if I'm trying to sleep.

That honestly sounds more like a SCP object's effects more then sleep deprivation.

I have another one. My alarm clock starts off with a high pitched sound, and whenever I hear the high pitched sound at school, I hallucinate the sound of the alarm going off for about 2 seconds.

The closest I've got to hallucinations from sleep deprivation is seeing what appear to be moths out the corner of my eye. Fluttering, black, moving shapes which are quite large but having chased them a few times I realise they are not there.

One thing I get all the time is patterns moving slightly or flickering. There is a mottled tile floor at work that starts doing it just before the end of my night shift.

I'd say... while I was driving, realizing that I was next to a big pumpkin being pulled by horses and that I really really needed to pull over and take a nap...
