Does grass and trees die if I block the sun
« on: July 26, 2011, 06:22:41 pm »

I am creating a building that will cover the ground. Will the grass and trees eventually die from lack of sunlight?

The light still, somehow, gets through buildings that block it.

In fact, once a tile becomes light, there's absolutely no way to make it not light.

So... no.

In hot climates where the grass dies out making a roof over the grass actually allows it to be green again.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

Yeah make the most of it for roofed surface crop farms whilst this bug lasts. It wont stay forever.

I believe that it will, however, block the wind.  Go figure.

We can only hope that when this is fixed an exception ismade for glass-block roofing. There's no real reason why dwarves shouldn't be able to make glass block ceilings and grow plants (or tree farms, even) below them.

I hope this bug only gets semi-fixed.  Light not actually hitting newly covered areas would be awesome, but I really like the idea of dwarves still seeing it as having been tainted by sunlight.

Definitely. Glass roofed subsurface plots would be good to have.
