How to fill gaps/holes?
« on: July 26, 2011, 04:09:22 pm »

Hi guys! I just started playing DF today (lazy newbie pack & Phoebus tileset), and so far I like it alot, but how do I fill gaps, holes and such? Say, if I'm digging a hole or a tunnel in sand I really miss covering up the hole afterwards with the same material, if I change my mind or just wanted a vein.
Also, terraforming.

You can't reconstruct natural walls in any way right now.
The most you can do is construct a wall

Carefully pre-planning your designations (if not all the sections of your fort) if you're like me.

b C w makes artificial walls if you have to (good for towers and such).

You get used to it, why not turn that little nook left by mining those ores into storage? Or a budget bedroom.

I'm not sure I can resist the urge to mine out those gems & ores in the wall, nor am I sure that little nook will agree with the aesthetics of my hallways... But thanks for your tips anyways. :)

Though, what is b C and w? I'm using a texture pack...  ;D

I figure, if someone comes across something that is clearly a special feature, and then asks about it on a forum. They want to be spoiled.

Aside from that, I don't even play fort mode :P

If you smooth the walls, or make them ALL constructed, you stop caring about natural walls, it is a beautiful thing

He he he.  Yeah, it almost looks done...  alas...  those who are in your teens, hold on until your twenties...  those in your twenties, your thirties...  others, cling to life as you are able...<P>It should be pretty fun though.

Yep - smooth your walls bro!  Pick a dwarf to make your main engraver and just designate like, an entire floor to be smoothed.  You'll come back to him in a couple of years with a smoothed floor of your fort and a legendary dwarf capable of smoothing/engraving solid stone walls just by scowling at them.
