Hi everybody! Just started playin' this game not to long ago and am loving it! Still a huge newbie though. But eh you know.. How does it go? "Losing is fun"? Ha anyway, its cool to hear about others grand ventures, I am just curious as to what you're largest colony of dwarfs was and how that kingdom fell (If it did?). Thanks guys!

My largest was 250 dwarves, and it fell to FPS. Sadly. It was an amazing fort.

ive reached 200ish with an un-modded game (fell to a tantrum spiral) , and since then modded every game since to have a cap of 300...strangely ive never made it to 300 tho....

268. It died to a combination of tantrums and syndromes. Basically a giant dimetrodon with deadly blood bled on my militia commander. 2 seasons later he effectively exploded. All his blood forcibly left his body through the skin with violent force. Infecting a lot of his friends sitting with him in the legendary dining hall.

Half a year later and over half the fort was infected. The guard captain had a hard job imprisoning all the tantruming dwarfs till he himself got infected and exploded his blood over his squad. It did not end well..

200, which is max pop cap, +childrens.
To avoid problems with fps i have used df-hack to obsidianize and remove the brooks and the moving water (no thawing, no freezing and no moving water)
i play with 40 fps standard. 22 in sieges, and use access zones with the restricted tag and the high access tag, to keep dwarfs where they should be, plus, locked doors.

I once had 521, but because of my terrible dwarf fortress strategy almost 3/4 of them were idle.

FPS was still doable at 40.

150 some back in 40d. Big forts aren't very fun. Everything can be automated with just a handful of dorfs making it really boring. So i play with less than 30. Much more interesting trying to balance military with getting jobs done.

usually i keep a 10% of 200 idle for haulings.
and since my stockpiles are full to the brim, everytime i create a bin it's a mass-moving of dwarfs to stuff as much as possible inside the bins.

I think my highest was around 80 before I applied proper population control. I don't like large populations. I usually try to keep it around 30 to 40.

The biggest I can remember is 120. I could probably go much bigger, but I value my high FPS.

My highest was around the 700's and it nearly killed my FPS.

My best is the current one with 112, but that's going to be retired once we kill the dragon this age is named after.
