.....
Well, at least I can't say today wasn't exciting. Our plane ride ended a bit more abruptly than I had thought it would...I met my first Pokemon, a Misdreavus who I mistakenly identified as female at first. We eventually settled on Charles. He seems very calm, composed and polite-and a bit of snob...sort of like me. I took an immediate liking to him.
Our first practice battle, I learned an important lesson-Dark Type moves can really hurt Charles. Anything with a vicious bite has his number, as Vanessas Growlithe showed me. No bigge. Better to lose to an ally than to mess in the field...as I learned later. We got named the Pussycats...yeah. Meow. :3
After we had jumped out of the plane and landed, our group got a bit acquainted. Can't say I know any of them very well, though.
Somehow we got split up-three of went to the desert, and me and Vanessa went to the forest. Mostly because I'm I didn't I want her to go out there alone...though, it turns out I needed her more than she needed me!
Now, things get fuzzy here, because we got ambushed by Shelmets who shot acid at me from the trees. I blacked out and woke up in a healing tank. Later, I was told Vanessa and Charles preformed quite well while I was downed...thats the second lesson. Pokemon seem to be sort of aggressive here-though later Mex, the Game show Host, explained that it was our own actions mostly-and they can be pretty dangerous if your unprepared.
The years I spent book training didn't prepare me for the real world...eventually, I got back to camp, and we were given a small Dex contest. Easy right? Well...I got ambushed again, this time as we were all searching on the beach. A Wingull apparently overheard me saying he was "harmless", and he winged me on the head. In truth, I didn't know Wingulls were so sensitive to criticism. Well, live and learn...I ended up back in the tank. Needless to say, it was frustrating.
By the time I got back, the Team had made camp to rest, near a dense grove of trees, looking for berries and whatnot. By now, I had learned to be careful. I spotted sleeping Pinechos in the trees, and warned the rest of the group to be careful not to wake them up. With some exceptions, most Pokemon just want to be left alone, it turns out. I was quiet, and found at least eight berries. I'll have to study the other ones closer later, but I know some were chesto berries, that cure drowsiness. I remember that Professor Elm theorized that it's because Chesto Berries bear similarites to the Coffee Bean of South America...
Charles helped, and got one for his trouble. He claims he doesn't really prefer any sort of berry, and he doesn't really dislike them either.
By the time my pack was full, I went back to the beach. To my surprise, we had attracted a small group of Totodiles they were feeding. I took a liking to one right away...most of what happened next I can't really say. I can't speak pokemon, but there was a fight between two of them over a stolen berry, and Buck, one of my allies mons, caved ones head in. Charles bitterly admitted to me later-after he woke up-that he had tried to pacify the situation, but to no avail.
We managed to make a friend of one of them though-a docile little Totodile, and a big eater, who I convinced to join me. We called him Sport. He's pretty brave though. I think he'll make a good addition to the team...now, I'll just skip to the good part, when the Father Feraligatr turned one my team mates into ice, to spare Buck the same treatment. Like I said at the time, brave but stupid...
We apparently hadn't had enough of getting our butts handed to us, so we went to explore a small castle afterwards. Big mistake! It was infested with some sort of Durant Cult, that rushed us at close range, before we could react. The battle didn't last long-We're lucky to have all gotten out intact...mostly due to the efforts of the Onix, and a lucky yawn from the Slug. I had a nice heroic moment of my own, when I nobly dragged Vanessa from the waiting jaws of the Durants to safety. I admit, it felt good to be a hero for once.... Sport was knocked out defending me, and Charles was asleep, so we skedaddled out of there right quick. We'll be back for our revenge one day, though.
Oh yeah, we also won the competion. Which means the other teams must have really sucked. Our team really needs to work on our tactics and strategy. We might not get lucky a second time.
And we got fishing rods! Maybe now I can catch the Chinchou I've always wanted...
