Well we had a little mini session, and I believe the plan is to try and get together on monday for another session, maybe a bit earlier than this time, so people can stay longer.

Yeah, to bad we ended early, I wanted a chance to get back in the game before the session ended...as it was, I just got bonked out in one hit and got 0 exp for that extra bonus humiliation.

Frustrating right.

That's a probably a risk we run when doing sessions like this, though.

It also seems like the goal of the GM's are to kill us. No offense to you guys, I still love the game. And I know combat is a big part of it, but when you think pokemon, you don't think every living thing that moves being out to attack, maul, and kill you. The game system seems pre-disposed to having the PC units being made of glass, ready to shatter at any moment, and every encounter we've had so far have been swarms of deadly pokemon that attack anything else on sight.

I guess it works for the games, you have to fight to get anywhere, but here in a role playing version, it doesn't seem quite right. We could have directly fought any of those groups we were facing today, but the goal that was given to us, was to get as many scans on the dex as we could in a limited time frame. Fighting has already been shown to be dangerous from the earlier encounters, and we have very little if any supplies. If you want combat, my advice would be to work it into the story, that we are being judged on how many battles we win, or something.

If it turns into pokemon hack and slash, I guess I'm fine with that. But I don't really expect that when I start a full table top game if the story doesn't push the PC's that way.

I can say that we aren't trying to actively kill you. In fact, in case of Total Party KO, you have Mex there.

It does feel like we're gearing to the combat, but we aren't trying to be. The stuff I gen up for wilds are very minimal: just levels and HP values.

I'll never try to actively kill trainers. I might try to take some of you out of the battle from time to time, and I may try to off a Pokemon or two down the line to push character development along, but I will never enter an encounter actively planning to kill off a trainer PC.

And Jarachi exists to eventual wish back somebody who died. :p

Well, technically, I did taunt that bird. I guess he wouldn't have attacked me otherwise.

Also, is it out of the question to ask if we can get some house rules to improve our chances of surviving?

I was thinking of like...

Doubling Active Health of Trainers

Unevolved Pokemon do half damage to trainers.
Pokemon that don't evolve, or have evolved once, do normal damage to trainers
Pokemon that have evolved twice do double damage to trainers

Enviromental damage like burning or getting an ATV flipped on you would not be adjusted.

Things to think about? If, for example all the above was implemented, that bird would have hit me for 10% damage instead of 50%, and I could have actually kept playing.

If you guys want a high death campaign, then thats all right though. I won't bother to get attached to my character then lol

Welp. Well, I can say the network does not want to see you dead. But, yeah. You guys are level 1 trainers. You'll get more resistant over time.

While you guys shouldn't expect to die in this campaign, that does NOT mean you should try to actively get yourselves killed. In fact, I have no qualms killing you off if you do something incredibly stupid.

Yeah, the first 10 levels will be the hardest, anyway. I figure I'll put at least five or six points in Con.

It should help against those "spawn multiple ranged acid shooters in the trees above the PC's head" situations.

Or perhaps the Researcher shouldn't pick a fight with 'harmless' birds who roll extraordinarily high on their damage dice.  :P

Considering you know the Wingull's movepool, and how much the other Pokemon are leveled... I have to agree.
