Mod request
« on: July 25, 2011, 08:42:16 am »

simply put:

Everytime i play the game, i build a fortress that kicks ass and takes names. because ive got used to the game. Now mega projects are nice and all, but i want something to entertain me and provide more of a story line than the weak ass goblins who get turned into chunky salsa via the 3 dwarfs to a squad millatery.
thus this is my request:

A single opponent that would appear in vast numbers, (not use crossbows because i enjoy up close and personal melle battles) be strong enought to fight an average dwarf, have leaders that take alot to bring down, and generaly act as the : EVIL to end all of time Opponents. A bit like Syrupleafs deamons or the nothing. something evil and malevolent and challanging, but can be beaten. Also preferable if they dont need armour and dont wear cloths -for FPS reasons-

Mainly i want to do this so that i can make a succession game. But im realy no good at modding. -will still attempt to learn, but the last try i did just didnt work at all- I have tried the defence modd, and found it rather dull since you cant go out and fight 200 opponents without legendarys, meaning you spend 5 game years just behind a wall watching. im quite happy to go out and kill 200 opponents, just not too thrilled when my dorfs have then to fight another 200 in the second seige that spawned half way through the battle and then shoot said legendarys in the head through adamantine helms and kill them in one bolt.

also: is their a dedicated mod request thread anywere that those who arnt very good can post ideas?

How about a race of fragile, yet force-field armed robots, that have shooting castes, boss castes, and melee castes, with their own built-in weapons?

So...
You want Daemons? A race that will mess your shit up? I could do that. Check all that you want:
* Caste with syndrome attack (probably severe pain, bleeding, paralysis)
* Caste that flies
* Even more powerful caste
* Faster caste
* Firebreathing caste

As you requested, they will all be melee guys and will take a steel-clad dwarf on in one-on-one combat. Any of the castes you want will have a 1:10 ratio (one appears for every ten normal ones) unless you want something else.
I kind of want a high-end race to mess my shit up, as well, so its a win-win situation for me. If you have anything specific in mind, just ask.

Also look up the Fortress Defense mod. And a few other ones, too.

would say that:

regular goons would be alot of them, but theyde be roughtly the same as an average dwarf in say iron armour. so your good armour isent treated like shit and it dosent take an age to start enjoying the slaughter.

as for the syndrome attacks: fire is good for higher level, and something that would class as lutenant would probably have a sevear pain causing attack, maybe with bleeding, but you dont want it to be able to kill a dwarf off just through syndrome, just to make it more dangerous in its current fight.

flyers would be a whole squad of its own, minorly weeker than the goons perhaps, and only 1 or 2 squads whent hey start, but steadly replacing the goons later on. would say equivalent to between copper and bronze.
Other than that, feel free to weave your magic :)

i have tried the defence mod mind, beak wolves annoy me. legendary in addy armour walks out, gets mauled to death or servearly crippled in just 1 strike, wtf? rest of the races are fine mind. But i would prefer a single race of something evil, since thats allows actual breathing space so you can collect your injured etc.

I'm afraid that I cannot make specific creatures appear in specific squads. It is impossible to modify the squad size or build by raw editing. What I can do, however, is make certain creatures rarer than others. So, the normal guys show up most of the time. One in five of these normal guys, however, can fly and is slightly weaker. One in ten of them can cause dwarves to go into severe pain and bleed with a breath attack, and one in twenty will breathe fire. I can make a very rare caste, one in a hundred, with extremely high social skills. I think that this means it will be more likely to rise to important positions, like monarch and general positions. I'm not sure about that, though.
So, I can make them equal to iron-clad dwarves, with the special castes to mix things up. What do you think of that?

sounds great :) thanks for taking up the request.

if their equal to iron clad on their own, then their sheer numbers should make them very dangerous.

Back when I was doing a lot of modding, back when syndromes just came out, I was working on a series of normal races, but they arrived in large numbers... very large numbers. Like huge amounts of animal people or some random creatures I made who were kind of weak, but one variant could fly. It wasn't uncommon to see 50. It usually capped at 200.

So you could probably see about doing something like that instead. It was hard to taper to beginning games, but yeah... You get the point.

The daemons aren't the best or the most polished, but they get the job done. Have fun!

A few? One tile of rock = imminent death to miner... One miner digs through 10 stones before he dies, tops. It's hardcore.

My mod has automatons (people made of steel) and warlocks (colorful breath attacks) if you're interested. I don't mean to promote my mod, but I'm just wondering if that might satisfy your request.
