33g, cave river oddity
« on: February 14, 2008, 07:46:00 pm »

same fortress that i reclaimed and had the ambush thing going on (that stopped btw i think the hunter got killed by a jaguar).  anyway when i originally chose the map i was using the regional prospector utility and the map i chose was to have a magma pool and cave river, i found the cave river relatively easy but i ended up using reveal to find the cave river.

what i found wasn't so much a river though, it starts at 20 tiles from the west edge and 40 tiles from the north edge of the map then runs north-east a bit before turning north, at that 20,40 point it the description of the tiles says it's a waterfall except there's no water above it, no aquifer on the map to pump water into the river either, the river animation shows thats it's flowing towards the north so where is the water coming from?

Osmosis, reality is a semipermeable membrane and the water is flowing from an alternate reality.

The water has to start someplace, and there's no rain saturation sim other than the aquifers, which are subpar.  This is just a cludge that isn't going away any time soon.

i could probably consider this a river source even though it doesn't have the spiderlike qualities that other river sources i've seen have, though having a waterfall thats on the same zlevel as the river is still odd
