Corrupted save
« on: July 24, 2011, 09:54:06 pm »

Alright, I'm having an issue with my game and as I'm not sure if this would go in the bug report forum, I'm just posting it here, in the most generic forum. It seems my save file has been corrupted and I'm getting the error message "One of the compressed files on disk has errors in it. Restore from backup if you are able." So yeah. Is there any way my save file can be recovered? I haven't made any backups, as this has never happened before, but I don't want to lose my fortress over something like this.

I'm afraid not.  If you don't have a backup you are out of luck.   Those corruptions seem pretty rare at least.

You can turn savegame compression off (and also enable autosaving, auto backing up and all kinds of other goodies) which should help if not completely prevent the corruption issue at the cost of a little more disk space being used up.  The options for that are in init.txt and d_init.txt located within the data>init folders.

I have it off myself for other reasons and I have yet to see a corrupted savegame, but as it is at the moment I'm afraid your save is toast unless somebody knows something I don't.
