While it is aknowledged that you can have a stokpile of food overclaimed by a single person, did you check that of that "Other 76" - there weren't all unprocessed fat and XdamagedX food?
Division of "Other" category of stats screen to immidiately edible and not edible was already suggested I believe.

If someone has a earlier save of a starved fortress, why don't you pack it, the region#.sav and region# folder, into a rar or zip and put it up on a file uploading service, like savefile.com or yousendit.com..

So we can see if it's a repeatable error, or if you have a setting somewhere that's messing it up.
