This is why I like to try to take along at least one sheep for my start as I will always have yarn to make cloth out of. Otherwise just hope a trade caravan comes BEFORE the dorf goes nuts. As as my last mention.......I suggest walling him off and locking him inside the workshop. If he goes crazy let your military use him as practice.

I don't know what is more impressive, that dwarves can skip salting and curing meat opting for zombiefication, or that the dark art of necromancy has been twisted to the cause of curing meats.

Human caravan to save the day!

Now I'm just waiting for him to pull an adamantine hammer out of his ass.  ::)

Edit:

Aaaaand it's an adamantium pick. That's... okay, I guess.

Yeah, adamantine is pretty ridiculously valuable. Whatever value multiplier, whatever decorations, if the base is adamantine, it's going to be tremendous. Artifact value is 120, multiplied by the material value of 300, multiplied by the (in this case) item value of 22 for a pick, it's worth at least 792,000. And that's not counting the decorations, such as the glorious yarn.

As for use, I'd put one of your legendary miners in the military so you don't lose it in a careless mining accident.

Mining picks make great weapons, congrats! Much better than an adamantine warhammer or toy boat.

Put a legendary miner in a militia and give him that pick and you will see more limbs fly than from a whole hallway of serrated steel disks.

I can't find it in the specific weapons list, and when I tell him to equip a random pick he refuses to pick (no pun intended) one up.

Disable the mining profession from him before drafting him into the military.  The mining 'uniform' and the soldier 'uniform' clash and he won't pick up the weapon.  He should pick up the pick basically right away.

When it says "on the item is an image of", I tend to imagine it as "the item takes the form of" this totally works for the walrus, its protruding tusks serve as the pointy bit. However I can never explain how hanging rings of Llama wool can be the least bit awesome
