Has anyone made old-school regenerates-very-fast trolls? I could see turning way up the heal rate for flesh and skin, and leaving it for bones.

Does that work? If I wanted to do this, where would I need to start looking?

I'm not any good at modding, but you can find regeneration rates in Tissue_template_default.  I think you'd need to make a new copy of the relevant body/tissue parts specially for the troll and then modify the Troll's raws in whatever creature_(something) .txt it's found so that it takes its tissue data from the new copy in which you'd modified the regen rates!  In theory, then, it would work.  But as always, make sure you check the error log when you gen a new world to make sure that no errors were produced from that.  Usually, it'll give you a good idea of what went wrong, though.

It's not possible, but I wish it were.
This game needs more horrifying things like that.

Maybe when the next DF update comes out, we can have a rare caste that can be used for harvested limbs and the like. To simulate regeneration of those limbs, we could have them make use of a custom job that causes a custom gas with a custom syndrome that turns them into their original race/caste (I'm thinking that might result in their limbs regrowing).
It's not perfect, but it does the trick.
Make the job take place at a custom workshop of 1x1 or 2x2 size, and you can even have the victim chained up...assuming you find a way to chain members of your own race without their breaking the law.
