Are you really so worried that you started a thread about this? I think he's already read plenty about everyone worrying for his health. If he wants to change something about his life, he will. People on the forums he's never met whining about his health isn't going to help much.
It's actually a bit insulting to him, thinking a fully-grown man can't look after himself and shouldn't make his own life choices.
On the other hand, I'm a bit along your thought process. When I first read the article, I was slightly horrified. "Can he really live long like that!?" But it seems he's getting along just fine. Getting most of your daily calories from soda isn't exactly healthy, but he's alive and will be for a while.
I'd like to donate in general (and I, too, am too young for a serious job) but not to help Toady in response to the article. At an average of $30,000 a year, there's not much he can do to significantly improve his living conditions; but even if he could, I doubt he would. This is the way he wants to live for now, so you should probably let him live his life.
I laughed when I saw this thread, after reading so much about this in the article's thread; I also felt a little sorry for both you and Tarn's health. Simply enough, there's not much either of you are going to do to change or improve the situation. Not being negative or anything, that's just the way it is. Let him be, man! (And sorry if this post made little sense, I'm on late-night soda fuel, which does the opposite of help me concentrate.)
All the same, if pity is what it takes to get more donations, pity Tarn's health all you can!
