Saving Problem
« on: June 17, 2007, 09:07:00 am »

This might be a problem with me using a pregenerated world but I think I've had this problem in the past and I think I had the game generate the world. I start fortress mode and play normally everything is fine. I save the game and quit. When I come back to play I try to start up DF and get a fatal error. The error is  "Main Index File Missing/Corrupted. The file "index" must be in the "data" folder. Make sure DF uncompressed into its folders properly." My index file is in the data folder so I do not know what the problem is. Thanks in advance.

Dunno.  It just tries to open the "index" file in the beginning of that game, and it gives you that message when it fails to do that.  It might think the file is still in use for some odd reason.  It shouldn't have anything to do with your save games.  After you've had it fail after a save game, if you reboot, does it work when you try again?

Restarting doesn't help. I edited the init file so the sound is off and it skipped the intro does that have anything to do with it?

I extracted all the files from the download into the same folder and overwrote all the original ones. This left my save intact and changed all the files back to the way they came in the download. I changed the init file to turn the sound off and started the game and it worked fine. My save loaded up fine also.

Hrm, perhaps the index file actually was corrupt then.
