ive played this game as eastern empire many times (probably my favourite vanilla totalwar campaign), but never managed to tollerate the crap state of the western empire.


You have my sympathies, if you are lucky both the Vandals and the Huns wont move far enough west to get you.

Hah, they will, when I played the Franks on a test run of the expansion all of them did. Plus the Goths came in and bulldozed the rest of Rome. But, before I stopped, the Vandals had mostly focused on Rome's enemies, including myself. So maybe I'll have to learn to lose a bit in this LP :/

Keep in mind that Roman armies liked using forts in their warfare. Epic Stone Walls are just a bigger version of fort

Some tips, should you want any. :

- Never field all-infantry against Huns (unless it's a siege or a bridge fight)
- Don't bother with archery duels against Huns, you will fail
- Cavalry, cavalry, cavalry!
- Try fighting Huns in woods. Not only do woods slow cavalry, but you can ambush the hell out of their missile cav, and engage it nearly lossless. Set your cav up front, somewhere hidden, and place infantry in the open, backlines. So that the Huns will charge the infantry, and your cav will stab them in the balls.
- A few cities WILL rebel, no way around it. Exterminate the population upon recapture to earn some gold. Focus on economical and public order buildings.
- Backwater cities should be garrisoned with cheap and terrible units. Elite costs too much.
- It's a bit gamey, but you can MAKE a city of yours rebel in order to exterminate it.
- Pay very close attention to world map when setting up for fights. Downhill chokepoints, bridges, forts, woods.. The Huns can be exterminated with territorial advantages alone.

The trick is to prioritize.  Accept from the get go that you will lose some cities in Spain but focus on keeping the wealthy italian cities.  Build basic docks for the income, accept that you will go into the red for a while.  Don't keep characters where there will be revolts because even bad characters are useful and you dont want them joining the rebels.  And remember, cash is king, those expensive units aren't all that cost effective anyhow.

Nice start Megaman, I love the ranting, insane style of writing, it's very funny.  I really hope you survive.  I've never faced the Huns before ( never played more than a single battle as the saxons, lost that one ) and from what you just wrote, they seem terrifying. 

Heh, they get pwnt when attacking, I managed to hold off an entire horde with a stone wall, two spear units, and a swords unit. This is mostly because they didn't have enough infantry to defeat the spear men, and they tried to charge at the spears with lancers.
