Heh, my mother said she had a dream of someones barn before and described the inside of it perfectly, right down to the tools and where they were located. My memory is hazy but I think she warned another family member not to go in there, she thought they would be murdered there. From what she has told me she has had several dreams like that in her lifetime. She seems to think it has something to do with the native american blood in our family lol.

I've had some pretty vivid dreams/hallucinations when I was young but nothing like my mother. It was just me seeing this one ghost or spirit like being several different times. It was sort of like a cliche witch only it was in robes with a gnarled branch-like cane and I could never make out its face under its hood. It was empty, almost void-like, except the long grayish/whitish hair which hanged out of it. It never interacted with anything (and I sure as hell avoided it) except for the last time I seen it I guess. I was reached for something and my hand passed in front of a mirror. The reflection showed its hand in place of mine... I don't much care for the implications of that.

Also, there was one time I was unable to move and was tortured for what seemed like an entire night by small shadowy demons. They spent the night tearing into my flesh with their claws (the pain was very realistic) and made wierd noises that sounded like a mix of laughter and growling. It was without a doubt the most horrible thing I experienced in my life. I'm glad its such a distant memory now.

Hmm, that reminds me. I used to also get the feeling something was pushing up on my mattress from below sometimes when I tried to sleep lol.

Despite all the weird shit thats happened to me I've never seen a guy with comically large eyebrows in my dreams. Since my dreams nowadays are bland (or impossible to remember) he is welcome to swing by anytime though. Except for the rare good ones with lots of naked bisexual women in it. I'll just go ahead and keep those ones eyebrow dude free thank you very much.

Sleep paralysis, extreme feelings, strange shadowy entities making weird noises, (in this case painful) tingling/sensations on the skin, and the ability to easily remember it.

If we're talking about dreams, mine are usually induced if I eat too much salty food before bed. Something about being dehydrated, I think.

I remember my first dream about a woman took place in a graveyard. Implications are unfortunate.

I wish I could remember faces in dreams. The only things I remember about my dreams are places (quite detailed, too - and I never did find a real life version of that dim, sleazy mexican restaurant!)

I agree, I'll have to do some thorough reading on that subject later. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

It's all just pareidolia.

When I was younger I used to get Pareidolia all the time, I would see faces in pretty much everything from piles of clothes, shadows on walls, just all kinds of stuff.

Ya, I actually hadn't really heard of those effects until just recently while listening to a skeptic podcast I found just a couple weeks ago. Turns out not only is it relatively common (as per the wiki, a significant percentage report having had one or more, while a smaller portion report having them frequently), but that it even resulted in a multitude of folklore entities to explain the symptoms.

Better wiki page; turns out sleep paralysis has it's own: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis
Be sure to read the folklore section; it contains quite a few interesting tidbits about a variety of things; including the origin of the word nightmare (a Mare being one of the folklore creatures attributed to it).

As for me, my only out of the ordinary dreams occur when I'm very dehydrated; usually after playing a game so intensely all day I forget to drink enough water. They then are more or less a series of short but exhausting sequences, usually from whatever game I was playing, repeated until I become lucid enough to go get a couple glasses of water, which prevents them from recurring. For example, when I got Orange Box, I played through Portal and got started into Half Life 2. That night I couldn't stop humming Still Alive, and every time I did it would throw me back into aforementioned sequences; in this case from Half Life 2. After a few of these I've learned to drink plenty during the day and a bunch more just before bed. :)

I still see them everywhere. Especially on furniture made of wood that has cross-grain still visible.

Growing up, our ceilings had this weird thing to it where the plaster had been "swirled" into lots of little round rosettes instead of smoothed flat. Each rosette was about the size of the palm of your hand, and if the lighting was right, the shadows fell such that most of them looked like a distorted little face.

So imagine the joy of being a child with with "issues" and an active imagination, lying in your bed and staring up at a ceiling of twisted faces staring down at you.  :o And this was about the same age I got really interested in Gustave Doré's illustrations, which often had lots of half-seen faces in the backgrounds....

I get sleep paralysis fairly regularly. Usually for just a few seconds, but long enough that whatever I'm dreaming will sort of "melt" away to reveal my surroundings, but of course faces and eyes are usually the last thing to fade, which is unnerving.

As for hallucination/lucid dreaming.....boy howdy. I could have filled a book after the last couple of days, but I was in so much of a delirium that I don't remember much now.
