Flaming Dwarves
« on: June 15, 2007, 09:01:00 pm »

I recently made a fortress and made it to the lava flow. A miner started digging a channel right from the flow, and died after 3 channel pieces(I later found out from reading this should not be done, because the miner will have a mamga bath).

Later, a dwarf came to bury the dwarf who died, but what he carried through the hall was a smoke-trailing strobe-light corpse which followed with a cloud of smoke. As this fellow died, another would bury him with the same effect. Needless to say, all of my dwarfs suffered the same fate a driver would running his car in an enclosed garage.

Are dwarf corpses who die from lava supposed to do this?

Sure they are. Well, if they make it out of the magma before they die (otherwise... well, if they were carrying anything of iron, that's all there will be left).

I don't think dwarves are supposed to haul around burning corpses (or other burning items), however.   ;) In the next version, you will be able to designate items so dwarves will not touch them, allowing you to prevent problems as you see them, and I assume Toady will improve the AI at some point so the dwarves know the dangers of fire.

In the current version, dwarves don't change their behaviour towards burning things. Fire doesn't exists for them. So if you have a burning something, try to make it unreachable in some way.

Or, disable temperature at that point by editing the "/data/init/init.txt" file.

Tomas asked Dolgan, "What place is this?"
The dwarf puffed on his pipe. "It is a glory hole, laddie. When my people mined this area, we fashioned many such areas."
