Capturing live fish ?
« on: July 23, 2011, 02:49:43 am »

Is it possible to capture live fish and put them into a large glass walled pond I'm building.

the non-vermin fish, like carp and pike?  should be yes.  i think the tricky thing is getting them into a cage trap without them air-drowning.  from what i've read, i am unsure if you must use a glass cage or not.

Well, it should be. I seem to recall someone catching and then breeding sea serpents, which should work more or less the same way as your average fish.

Thanks for the suggestion, but Number4 is correct: [...] it would be easier and more predictable to just be a racist.

I don't Think that's catching. That's more like relocating the entire ocean. Any other way is non-dwarfy.

On another note, It might be a nice goal to build some sort of Dwarf-sea-world. With glass tunnels and everything.

I read from wiki that you can tame sea serpents, so you gotta be able to capture them somehow...

You cannot capture vermin fish though. Upon capture they turn into an item and will rot.

Mermaids, walruses, and sea serpents have all been farmed and the farms have been posted. However, since Oliolli said sea "serpents," I think he meant "sea serpents."

for my own reference, does capturing aquatic wildlife require a glass cage?

oh, and you CAN capture the vermin fish too, with small animal trapping and glass animal traps.

Nope, metal or wood cages will work just as well.
