My aunty has schizophrenia, and has access to the internet.

All that she does all day is post links to conspiracy sites about EVERYTHING.
The small earthquake we had recently, HAARP, Japan and the tsunamis, and now this.
She really really thinks that this guy is from the government, and it's all part of some 'bigger picture.'

He doesn't seem insane, judging from his writings. He's just a typical ultra right-wing wacko spreading the same doctrines I'm hearing from ages. Blah blah blah communism blah blah blah muslims will flood us blah blah blah free market blah blah blah. There is a lot of those people in the UE, some of them regularly talking about rooting out commies and praising Pinochet. This one was just more dedicated than most of the others.

One of the injured died at hospital, bringing the death toll to 93. Furthermore, the manifesto is mostly copied from the Unabomber's own manifesto.

All you people claiming that him being a Christian conservative extremist is irrelevant because he is alone or "insane" or anything like that, I'd like to offer you an article on this to read.

Also, an article on how the media reacted to the tragedy.

It's not completely irrational to suspect a muslim extremist at first, considering how often that is the case.

"In 2009, a Europol report also showed that more than 99% of terrorist attacks in Europe over the last three years were, in fact, carried out by non-Muslims."

Granted it's from Wikipedia and I was too lazy busy to check sources.

So... very rarely?
Salhafi terrorism is overrated.
Christian terrorist on the other hand... IRA ARB, FNLC,....
The thing that annoyed me very much in this crap about Islamism is that traditionally, terrorist in Europe are Far left, far right, and regionalists. Far left being topically Christian, and far right usually atheist.
So stop boring and dumbing us with Muslims: ok they've learned make explosive, but we've been dealing with this crap since WW2. We are fucking used to it.

I don't trust this table, because a quick search on the Global Terrorist Database for Ireland produced 6 terrorist attacks in 2008 instead of the 2 reported in the table for Ireland during the 2008 period. I'll probably need to create a new table based on GTD data.

3 Islamist attacks/1316 Total Attacks=0.227% attacks done by Islamists during the 2007-2009 period.

You know, I'm sort of reminded of the guy who did that shooting in Finland a couple of years ago, barring the difference in scale.... is there a lot of underlying social tension of that sort (eg: popularity of far right movements) in the zone at the moment?

The underlying social tension is that the greedy, corrupt ruling governments made up of career politicians are allowing the mass immigration of violent, incompatible cultures into those countries.
This is turning large swathes of major cities into areas resembling the 3rd world hell holes those peoples originated from.

If everything was hunky dorey 'extremist white nationalist' organisations would remain fringe parties and everyone would continue in delightful political apathy

Not really, they are mad because there is no real social tension. Basically, right wing Christian extremist are despised by everyone, and they make a big deal of a nearly non existent insecurity. The number of assassination by capita is more than Four time less in Europe than in US for instance.
Our political apparatus is dysfunctional though, and education has gotten pretty bad in a lot of countries, with a steady decrease since the 70's, or at least that what every single teacher say.
There are problem with immigration but nothing out of the ordinary, and lot of peoples doesn't realize that we don't really have a choice : without a strong immigration, the baby boomer generation will be a real trouble.

But the greedy, corrupt governments (each to various degree depending of the country) surely fuck a lot of thing with right wing throwing our money at corporation and trampling our right, and traditional left wing throwing our money out of the windows in bloated project, nepotism, stealth corruption and poorly though policies.
Hence the current tensions in Europe.

Why is the UK row blank?  I guess there was one Islamist attack in that timeframe, but probably quite a lot of IRA ones in Northern Ireland.
