Tried to take on a hunting horror only to realize I was out of shots. I died. Painfully.

*Smoother rendering in certain cases (e.g. no flickering when blinded)

Daaaamn, this is awesome. How did I miss this game?...

Anyway, needs a wiki. Or at least a list of all conditions, items, dungeon features like altars and braziers and stuff.

Note to self: do not read random scrolls.

I Love that scroll. It's basically a way of keeping the big scaries distant and getting ~60 free xp.

Any plans for a real tileset support? I could make a grim one. I am not a perfect tileset maker, but I have a bit of experience with tilesets.

Sorry, no. The current one is the limit of what I can bother to maintain :D

From an interview about the game:

PixelGush: One of the first things any player will be struck with is the good looks of the game. The graphics look as if they were intentionally designed to look somewhere between a tile-set and ASCII. Why did you choose this halfway house between both? Rather than a “full” tile-set or “plain” ASCII? Did this impact the way you made the game?

Martin Törnqvist: It did not impact how I made the game, because the graphics was added very recently (in terms of versions). The silhouette graphics style was something that Oryx (the creator) showed me from his previous work. I thought it looked fantastic, and we agreed that this would work very well for IA. Here are the reasons why:

•As I talked about in the Roguelike Radio interview, these tiles feels similar to ASCII in that they are symbols rather than explicit presentations. They do give you a general suggestion of how things look, but they leave enough room for the individual player’s mind to fill in the rest, which is quite powerful. The tiles also give a neat look to the game thanks to their extremely basic nature, every pixel matters.

•The style is easy to draw and easy to imitate. If I need new graphics I can draw it quickly myself, and it will totally blend in. No need to depend on someone to keep providing tiles.

•Synergy with the ASCII mode. Since both modes are colored the same way, I can simply change the color value of an object and it will update for both modes. No need to open an image editor.

I see! Well, I just love to make tilesets for awesome roguelikes, it's my passion :). It did not hurt to ask, right?
I just wondered if it would be possible to make something like Tales of Maj'Eyal to be an optional tileset in the future. You know, community can make wonders sometimes :).

Oh wait, you share the source! Then maybe in the future someone will make a tileset support. Let me stop bothering you about it, hehe.

P.S. Does "d.nrLeftAllowedToSpawn" allow to make unique monsters (does it determine how many can be spawned during the game)? Why do some monsters have it as 0 then? Some special spawning conditions?

Exactly. That value is used when randomly spawning monsters. Some unique monsters should only spawn once (but if you leave the level and they are still alive, then nrLeftAllowedToSpawn are set to 1 again so you'll have to defeat it eventually :D)

And for some it's 0, because as you say, special conditions. Brown Jenkin for example can only be spawned when summoned by the witch Keziah Mason. And there's a pharaoh guarding the underworld that is spawned explicitly by the map he appears in.

Heh, just died for the first time. I love the atmosphere of this game. I like almost all of Lovecraft's stories, and I am in love with the Arkham Horror tabletop game, so this one hits the spot perfectly!
