Blowing people to bits is never unfun.

Spending hundreds of dollars and/or days of your life trading for hats with shiny particle effects is, though.
Spending ten bucks for years of fun is the best investment ever.

Okay, back on topic, I'm probably gonna preorder. Who wants a free copy of tropico 1+PI, or tropico 2 (provided I'm able to give them away)?

Hey, let's not make this about TF2 yeah? There's no hat to be had.

Hats off to Nenjin for bringing us back on topic.

I may be going against the grain here, but Tropico 2 was a lot of fun for me. I understand it had very little in common with Tropico 1 but I still really enjoyed it.

I hope they make accessing information easier. There are some stats I would look up constantly, but they took 4 clicks through the alamac.

Wish I'd had a chance to play this more at E3. But I had people waiting to play it and had NO idea what I was doing, so I didn't manage much. Sounds like it'll be worth getting, though.

Looked pretty, though, and while I wasn't really sure how things worked I still had fun for the 10 minutes or so I floundered through it.

Try the demo, it does a very good job of giving you a taste of the game.

Ooh, I like this. I was going to get Tropico 3, but I just sort of forgot about it, so this is very interesting.

I'd take either/both, unless there's some secret rivalry between us. And if there is a secret rivalry between us, know that your tyrannical rule shall soon come to an end, Dictator Siquo.

Uhm, so I checked out the demo and...is it just me or is it basically just Tropico 3 with a slightly better UI? I played the demo for about 40 minutes just now and what I saw of the demo doesn't show off any changes that, to me, would justify paying £30 for it instead of just buying Tropico 3 Gold off steam for a lot less than that...I mean, don't get me wrong it was a very fun 40 minutes, but Tropico 3 was a fun game too.

I also loved Tropico 2.
In fact, I have it in my D drive right now.

But yes, you're right. Tropico 3 was fantastic fun and I don't see how they could have improved on that too much. But at the same time, is that an excuse for mediocrity or stagnation? I don't think so. I don't think there is an excuse.

Would you prefer that the developers fly off on some strange tangent and make a completely different game? Because, ya know, last time they tried that we got Tropico 2.  :P
Absolutely I would! These guys made the most fun city-sim I've played in years, I don't want them to hand me a slightly better version of it, I want them to go out and make something else just as cool! Just cause Valve made Half Life doesn't mean they shouldn't make games like Portal, to use a slightly iffy comparison. Variety is the spice of life and there should be more of it with big publishers in this industry.

I thought I was the only one! I had fun with Tropico 1, but I really loved Tropico 2. Wenches, pirates, execution of slaves ... I dunno, maybe I just really like pirates and wenches. It's rare to find someone else that likes it.  :)

Yeah, if you get freebies on Steam and don't have those games yet, they go straight into your library.  You can't gift them.

I noticed a couple new things. The new world powers of the EU, China and the Middle East seem cool. I hope there's a chance for the USSR to win the Cold War, that would be neat. The new trading system is cool, with prices actually rising and falling according to supply and demand.

The missions and blueprints aspect modernizes the game alot, adding a gratification system to the player, adding a feeling of progression. However I don't like the loss of difficulty given by the missions. They basicly give you free money...

Oh and two awesome things happened as I played through the demo. A tornado struck and started ripping up trees, cars and houses and carrying them into the sky. That was awesome. Plus they added a rebuild button above the rubble of destroyed buildings so you don't have to guess to figure out what was destroyed :)

The second awesome thing is I got the message, "Pedro MacTopican has turned into a criminal." This changed the tropicans profession to criminal and she procided to run around with a pistol mugging people and occasionally murdering them. Eventully I sent the army after her, and they killed her in the street, lowering stability. But the demo mission was really easy so it didn't really matter.

Overall I'm pretty cyked for this game and will totally preorder it, but then again, Tropico is one of my favourite commercial games so I'm probably pretty biased :) Anyway's I'll probably have a copy of Tropico Reloaded (the original 2) to give away because I already own them...unless one of my friends wants it then I'll give it away on Bay 12.

This is not true, actually. I cannot remember for the life of me how you do it, but Portal 1, a freebie I got from pre-ordering Portal...

No wait, I did already own that. But I swear, there is a way. I will load up Steam and mess about to try and find it.
