1,3 and 4 are essentially the same game with slight improvements.  If you're going to buy just one of them, number 4 is probably the one to go for.

Tropico 2 was this bizarre disaster.

We don't talk about 2.

1, 3, 4 is indeed essentially the same game with graphics updates, so they are ALL THE BEST :)

Small? It's over a gig!
A gig isn't very big these days.

Overall I liked the inclusion of objectives and events that pop up randomly, and the information presentation seemed more polished in the demo. I'll probably buy it.

Tropico 3 was my first introduction to the series. I enjoyed it enough to buy it and Absolute Power off Steam for cheap. Tropico 4 is sounding exactly like 3, which is good. About the only thing I didn't like from Tropico 3 was it was just a little too hammy at times. That and while some stuff was a little too detailed (managing pay for individuals), some of it wasn't detailed enough. (Mostly the Evil Dictator stuff.) Maybe it's more fun in a campaign setting with clearer objectives, but all I've played is countless sandbox games.

If I had to compare to something, it's like Anno 1404-Lite. You've got a lot of industry and economy to figure out. Unlike Anno 1404, there isn't as much depth to your options for industry and economy....but there's more fun options elsewhere, like political manipulation of the Tropicans, laws and decrees and all that jazz.

Damn, preordering for 4 gives me 1 and 2 as a bonus. I DON"T WANT THAT.

Give me a TF2 hat or something, at least that's more useful.

I'm never sarcastic. A TF 2 hat I can wear (and I probably would), Tropico 1&2 I won't do anything with.

But but... the hats are so stupid! :)

Don't mind me, I think Hat Fortress 2 is about as unfun as possible.

Blowing people to bits is never unfun.

Spending hundreds of dollars and/or days of your life trading for hats with shiny particle effects is, though.

Hey, let's not make this about TF2 yeah? There's no hat to be had.
