Yeah, the original had the same problem with shacks. There'd be one couple living in a shack, because the husband doesn't give two shits about housing quality, and the communists(whom the wife is a spokesperson for, and she does care about housing quality) would be bleating about the people living in squalor. Bulldoze the shack, and the bastard goes and builds another one, despite the plentiful, decent, rent-free housing available.

So the demo is out, where you can play the tutorial, and one mission with a lot of options left out.

Looks a bit better than 3 (but not by much), has a few added buildings, the UI has changed a lot (and not for the better but it might be just getting used to), and has a few things changed.

Positives:
+ I did like the small sub-goals, where you could accept challenges to increase your influence with foreign powers and factions on your island in a more logical way than the previous "random events".
+ Added faction "Loyalists" makes sense
+ Addition of foreign powers (Europe and China for instance) that don't give you aid but having a good standing does provide other benefits
+ Some interesting buildings added
+ Better warning system of inefficiencies (such as places not connected to roads etc)
+ Better disasters

Negatives:
- Not really a different game than 3. It's more a "Tropico 3 Mucho Macho Edition" than a Tropico 4.
- UI is "bigger and more console-y", which doesn't help with detailed views. In games such as these I want clear lists and graphs
- It appears you can't zoom out as far as you used to. I'm having a hard time checking out the entire island for resources.
- No more "Perks and flaws", but now it's one list where every flaw has perky side-effects. It's not balanced well, however.
- Upgradeable Perks?! It's not an RPG! Or is it?

Juanito was literally the only reason I continued playing this game, the man made me laugh.
I'll probably not buy this, the third game was far too easy. :(

Juanito bugged out on me after a few minutes in game in T3, and I didn't really mind ;)

I didn't pay much attention to the radio, but it seems like it's improved a bit, too, every building or small change gets radio reports, making them even more diverse.

Juanito is VERY annoying(at least to me), in the Absolute power expansion they gave you an edict that gave you the ability to shoot him. It works

Hah, I never played the expansion. That's a pretty cool edict though.

Also, hooray for Tropico 4!

I think it's quite an improvement in UI over 3, I just went back to play with 3 a bit after trying the demo and the difference is night and day. It's just a lot smoother to play in general.

The scroll speed seemed too fast, though.

Indeed, I hope they have an option to slow it down (I didn't see such an option in the demo, so I sort of doubt it).

I like the subquests from faction leaders, kind of like catering to special interests in the real world.  Especially the part where the faction leaders give you money, ask you to do something, then respect you more for actually doing it.   ;D

Juanito was annoying, so I had him executed. It was nice hearing that chatterbox shut up.

Just looking at your list, Siquo, Loyalists were actually added in Tropico 3: Absolute Power. Which basically sums up what I didn't find appealing about Tropico 4. It just felt like Tropico 3 with a change to the art style that I didn't jive with and a few additions that really could have been added in expansions.

Still, maybe I'm just a party pooper. I'll get it on a steam sale, I think.

Ironically enough the loyalists can hate you and they act like every other faction in the game.

I like to assume they're loyal to their concept of you and not who you actually are.

Pretty much, although the game does (or, well, Absolute Power did anyway) sort of encourage you to enlarge your usually small number of loyalists since they will almost always vote for you in elections. Unless you've really pissed them off.

Not that I care, since everyone votes for me anyway. :P

Loyalists are really easy to keep happy too. Build a museum to YOURSELF and you get them stoked :P

Never played AP, but that just makes it even worse.

In their defense, however, making a very good game better is quite hard. Having "real" goals instead of vague ones ("better housing for everyone!"... okay, how much better?) is the best addition so far. I haven't noticed too much change in the graphical style. Perhaps I haven't been paying attention? The lighting is awesome though.
