...DF does have death yaks. Ever attack one in adventure mode? Or how about zombie yaks?

Basically a noble that exists only to talk down stressed dwarves. Therefore, completely necessary in most fortresses.

Because its covered in dirt and rock dust. Also, any competent soldier would make sure it didn't shine and give their location away to the enemies.

What's actually burning is not the item itself, but the magical energy imbued in it by the moody dwarf. This magical energy is replenished from the aether, and the burning depletes it at about the same rate that the aether replenishes it. This energy would be used for artifact based magic, but it isn't implemented yet.

Why do creatures require contact to breed when they didn't before?
