Have you ever tasted blood? It tastes like... well... blood. Death by thirst is preferable to drinking it if you aren't a vampire or being commanded by an omniscient force focusing all its might on making you suck up that blood.

Why won't my dwarves chop up dead stray animals? They're not even pets guys, come on...

I've tasted blood, yeah; my own, from a history of nosebleeds. It's salty, a bit eh I would say like the aluminum top of a pop can, and a little bit like peanuts. But mostly the metal and salt taste.

Why won't my dwarves chop up dead stray animals? They're not even pets guys, come on...
They're paranoid about vermin affecting the dead animal if they didn't see it die by their own hands. Blood flies and purring maggots are a real concern, after all.

Why was it inevitable?

If it wasn't inevitable, it would not have happened.

Is the above the dwarven answer to life, the universe and everything?

No, that would be magma. And sometimes, lava.

Does the fact that I like the taste of my own blood make me a vampire?

...why do your hydras have two more heads than mine?
Does that mean male hydras... oh god dammit.

Nah. ((The trouble with drinking blood is that it congeals in your stomach, making you feel pretty sick.))

Do vampires necessarily like the taste of blood?

Compared to weird cave fungi or minced together mush of fat, blood must seem a pretty good upgrade.

How many times has a question with the theme of "Why can't I think of anything to ask?" been asked?

For extra spikiness and it is done by the will of Armok!

Why am I asking, "Why can't I think of any question?"

When food rots, it is because the food throws a tantrum and commits suicide. If the food has friends around (eg. in a food stockpile) it will be suitibly entertained and not throw a tantrum.

How was the first pickax made? (you need a pickaxe to mine metal, which you need to forge a pickax) Even if armok created the first anvil, making a pickax would still be impossible.

Depends on who you ask. If you ask Masterwork, a wooden shovel would have been made first.

Rock birth control is surprisingly ineffective.

Why did my doctor just use an incredibly expensive strand of an incredibly expensive blue metal to suture a minor leg injury (read:near removal) instead of using the nice, happy spider-infested batch I had next to it?
