I went to the Captain America midnight show.
« on: July 22, 2011, 03:55:48 am »

I personally thought the movie was really good, 9/10 for it. It had good action and comedy, but rarely any romance which I am quite happy about. The theater I watched it in was tiny and the show sold out fast, one of the best moments among the crowd was a guy wearing a Thor helmet, golden boots, and a red cloak. He was a giant, too, he towered over everyone else in line. There was another guy wearing a tank top and pants who had all his bare skin painted green. Some guy was wearing a shirt with parts on the front of it glowing a bright blue like Iron Man's battery thing. During the previews, everyone was talking about random stuff then so guy yells out "SHUT UP!" and it got quiet, with some people laughing.

So yeah, did anyone else go see that movie?

I'd watch the Captain America film except I'm English and I couldn't care less.

I don't get what's so special about the captain America movie, it is just another comic book movie.

Exactly. Being a comic book movie, the dorks and nerds will come out of the woodwork for it. I should know, I am one of them.

My favorite of the comic book movies is STILL the Green Hornet one. But I haven't seen the new one yet - Captain America was never a bad superhero, but he wasn't really one I ever cared about either. Might be worth a go at some point, but I'll probably wait until it starts running in the dollar theatres.

I've never read any of the comics so I can't tell anybody if it was accurate or not.

Dunno, but I saw Thor at the dollar theater Tuesday, it had several funny moments, mostly involving "HOW DARE YOU ATTACK THE ALL MIGHTY THOR!" Then he face plants.

It isn't that everything needs to have comedy, it's that simple but effective jokes can be made without detracting from the overall plot and mood of the film. It's an improvement to the overall experience in my opinion, it isn't necessary but it doesn't hurt to have either. As long as it's not forced or repeated to death. Funny things happen all the time in real life so it seems reasonable to reflect that to some degree even in a false reality.

So basically as I suspected... comedy is a short cut. I knew it!

Now if you will excuse me, I shall destroy half the comedy cartoons and Comedy heavy cartoons on the air... or rather... half of all the shows on the air and EVERY SINGLE E RATED MOVIE THAT HAS COME OUT IN THE LAST 10 YEARS!

Neonivek, you DO realize that even Shakespeares Tragedies, where everyone dies, had plenty of comedy in them, right?

Its nothing new.

Its a handy device for changing up the mood from time to time and keeping the important action or drama fresh. Lots of very good movies would be stale and boring by the end if not for the comdey. And dont ask me to cite sources, this is an internet forum argument so it shall be sustained as such.

Trailer makes it look decent. I might check it out if some friends are going for it. Captian America is one of those things that has been tried many times and failed, even within the category of comic book movies. Hopefully somebody competent took a stab at it.
